Lindsey Smith · Lindsey Explains It All

Oh, hello!

It’s been a minute, or 342,720 to be exact. (Yes, I calculated the exact minutes from the last newsletter I sent out).

I started 2025 with all the intentions of being super active here. In fact, I have five posts sitting in drafts that I never *actually* posted. (Perfectionist tendencies, anyone?)

Why the radio silence?

Personally, I wrote three books this year. Yes, three. In short: I was tireddddd of writing.

Professionally, I worked with so many of my incredible clients on their book projects, both reading and editing.

And because this year was full of so much reading, editing, and writing, any writing for “fun” got pushed to the side. Isn’t that the life of a creative entrepreneur?

So here is my 2025 wrapped so you can see all the stuff I was up to and why I desperately need a nap.

MY BOOKS & PROJECTS

I launched FOUR projects this year. Yes, FOUR! After a seven year hiatus (i.e. lots of rejections and projects that died on sub), I finally started creating again. I am so proud of these insanely gorgeous projects!

MY CLIENT PROJECTS

As a literary agent, I sold a record number of books this year. (Many of which I have not announced yet for various reasons, but I cannot wait because they are soooo good!)

Aside from my client projects, I also started handling merchandising rights for our agency. (Like this gorgeous special edition of Rebecca F. Kenney book, The Sea Witch.)

And of course, so many of my clients launched books this year. I always joke that my list as a literary agent is 50% true crime and 50% beautiful books about flowers and awe. It’s like the worst things in humanity and then a palette cleanser of beautiful flowers in-between. This year’s book stack definitely reflects that!

Here are my clients that launched books in 2025:

MY COACHING CLIENTS

Aside from my work as a writer and literary agent, I also work with a select number of clients a year as a book coach, creative director, and/or book packager. Here are some of my client projects:

Keren Eldad: I am always learning from Keren and leave inspired to do the inner work before taking action. Keren launched her incredibly timely book: Gilded: Breaking Free from the Cage of Ambition, Perfectionism, and the Relentless Pursuit of More and the complimentary journal, Gilded: The Journal. And get ready because in 2026, Keren is launching her next book, and it’s her best one yet!

Andrea Dow: One thing I love about Andrea is that she always brings a large amount of creativity to every session. Seriously, this year alone, we worked on children’s books, card decks, journals, stationary, and more. She recently launched her traditionally published book, The Gratitude and Glimmers Journal. And get ready for 2026 because we are working on an entire imprint to bring her card decks, books, and stationery kits to life.

Brielyn Flones: Brielyn (aka Brie) and I have been working together since the launch of her first book, Bear Loves Bread. (Dogs? Bread? Plus, the cutest story and the most adorable illustrations. A must-have for your bookshelf.) This year, Brie expanded her creativity in a big way and started drawing, creating her very own Substack where she features fun stories and illustrations about her cat, Snoball. Check it out here.

MY 2025 FAVORITES

Books: Here is a list of all the books I read in 2025. The standout book for me was Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito. In fact, I liked it so much, I read it again!

Documentaries: My best friend and I watch a lot of documentaries together, especially in the true crime or social commentary genre. One night, we were looking for something to watch and stumbled upon the documentary, Deaf President Now! And wow. This documentary was so powerful and inspiring. And yes, I liked it so much, I watched it again!

Music: The fact that we got music from Lorde, Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, Hilary Duff, HAIM, and Taylor Swift? Yessssss! While I didn’t have one favorite of the year, these are the songs I found myself listening to on repeat: “How Bad Do U Want Me” by Lady Gaga, “What Was That” by Lorde, “Mature” by Hilary Duff, “Actually Romantic” by Taylor Swift, and “Father Figure” by Taylor Swift.
