This evening was magnificent. My friend Titia came for dinner to watch with us. She is ninety. We had a lot of laughs…I told her that Auntie Carla just turned 104. Not going anywhere yet. Titia is from Holland. Gave Winston Churchill a bouquet of wildflowers, when he rode past her house upon the liberation of her country. She said, Papa, I want to do this. He stopped the jeep. Accepted her gift.
I felt that the Oscars represent who we really are.
It felt subtle, elegant, sophisticated, inclusive, creative, and funny. Auntie laughs all the time.
Auntie Carla studied at Julliard in the 40s with Nadia Boulanger. You can read more about Boulanger and her lost opera here.
She retired at 99. At 89, she said, Darling, I no longer teach the little ones. If I keeled over in the middle of a lesson, I would give them a terrible fright!
Love to you all, Linda
