“Time, see what’s become of me while I looked around for my possibilities” - it’s a line from the Simon & Garfunkel song “A Hazy Shade of Winter”. It’s a compelling poem of a song, apt for contemplating the last days of 2025 and a new year beyond.

So, here we are again - and lucky to be - both the same and utterly new. I have a forward looking temperament but am sensitive to the peculiar weight of personal history and how it bends the pathways ahead. And you, do you wonder how your particular alchemy will stir the potion that is tomorrow, a new day and new year?

The end of a twelve month cycle, in the dead of winter, while festivities are still in progress and friends and family present, is as good a time as there is for assessing the past and constructing a tale for the future.

Although periods of the year were fraught with burning disappointment and hurt, the moments and images that fill my imagination are not those but the world I live with other artists, the “time out of mind” experience of creating music and performing on stages across state lines in the company of good people who are generous musicians too. Here are a few of those moments:

And, always and forever, the words of the Persian Poet (Jalal al-Din Mohammad-e Balkhi, known as Rumi), translated and gifted to me by my father, and that I share with you now on the brink, the cusp, the precipice of our New Year:

Until next year. XO.
