A. L. Jensen Cozy Mysteries is a biweekly feature of Women Writing, offering insights into this beloved genre and my journey from writing historical fiction to cozy mysteries with a Nordic twist.

Happy Saturday! In today’s newsletter:

📚 My apologies!

👉Where you’ll find me

A few weeks ago, I made a request to readers, and several of you reached out. Thank you! I said I’d send an email with a link to ARC readers for Murder by Nordic Design later in the week. I knew I had left it too long, and then … I forgot. Yup. Just plain didn’t do it. The brain fog is real. Then, a few days later, the book was out in the world and I’d missed the moment. My apologies to anyone who was planning to read the ARC copy. I will do better next time (and not leave it so late)! If you do read the book or any others in the series, reviews are so appreciated. They really do help authors and other readers.

Despite my significant—and slightly embarrassing—gaff, Book 3 in the Hygge House Cozy Mystery series is out in the world and I’m slightly overcome by the great response. My little Nordic cozy mystery series is finding its way into readers’ hands, and I’m so grateful to everyone for the support, encouragement, and love for this series. It truly makes my heart sing.

In other news, I’ve been busy this summer working on the first of three Finnish ritual books, and for this one, I’m learning all about sleep. I’ve always believed I was a great sleeper—until a cardiologist sent me for a sleep test last weekend. Um, maybe my brain fog is connected to a sleep issue?

After hooking me up to all the wires, I was left to sleep. And I did. And was woken up, twice, to adjust the wires. I’m surprised the (wonderful) staff could get any readings from me at all. After they woke me up at 5:30 AM, my husband picked me up and I was rewarded with a great cup of coffee and a sunrise over Ramsey. Overall, an okay experience. Will I write about this experience in my sleep rituals book? You bet I will!

As summer slowly transforms to autumn, I’m looking forward to upcoming events. Last Wednesday, I enjoyed great music at Anderson Farm Museum in Lively, Ontario for their weekly August event, Rock the Farm. So great to connect with local readers and hang out with author friends Emily Andrews and Holly Gutwillinger of Ramblings From the Little Shed.

If you are in Greater Sudbury, Toronto, or Calgary, come by and say hello at one or all of these upcoming events!

Sunday, August 30, 2:00-5:00 PM: Sudbury Writers’ Guild’s Annual Roving Outdoor Book Fair, Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre, Capreol

Saturday, September 5, 10:00-4:00 PM: Use Your Voice Indie Book Fair, Dr. Edgar Leclair Community Centre, Greater Sudbury

Saturday, September 19, 9:00-5:00 PM: Anderson Farm Fall Fair, Lively

September 26-27: Word on the Street, David Pecaut Square, 215 King Street West, Toronto with Sisters in Crime and Crime Writers of Canada

October 22-25: “Best in Show Panel,” Thursday, October 29 at 3:00-3:45 PM, Bouchercon Calgary

November 2-30: Artist Residency, Arteles Creative Centre, Finland

Let’s just hope I don’t forget any of these dates! And my sleep study will give me a little insight, too. Stay rested, friends.
