Now for something - different.
I’ve come a long way in my healing journey and even been able to help others in theirs. But I still have struggles. And sometimes I need space to reflect and grieve.
Consistency is important though, so I’m going to send out a message today, though perhaps shorter than usual and varied in content.
This is a time of change for me, and perhaps it is for you too. In my deepest knowledge, I sense that the coming new year will be completely different.
Whether good or bad, change can take a toll on mental and physical health. It takes energy, wisdom, and resilience to navigate it.
If this article has found you in a period of upheaval in your life, I send you these thoughts:
Remember the saying, “Failure is only feedback.” Try to approach the experiment of life like a scientist, always seeking to expand on the best outcomes and improve on the “not best” ones. Or for levity, approach it like a mad scientist, a quirky one out of an 80’s sitcom or cartoon.
Hold tightly to real love. Whether that’s friends, family, “found family”, a romantic partner, a pet, or in whatever shape it takes. Turn there for comfort and rest when you need it.
Wait with excitement for the secret hope around the corner. Today may be gloomy, but tomorrow anything could happen! In the darkest hours, I remember all my stories about sudden uplifting events that rescued me - whether big or small. Watch and wait for that.
(I’m still waiting for capybaras to get loose from the wildlife rescue and rampage through my living room. Come on, capybaras!)
Let yourself be lifted by music and laughter. Or both at the same time. Or whatever brings your soul a moment of peace and joy.
Don’t shut out grief or sadness. Allow yourself to feel it and move through it, like water flowing until the basin is rinsed clean. Reach out for help and support with this when you need it.
Which of these suggestions do you find most useful this holiday season, and how will you be using it?
Do you have any words of wisdom of your own to add? Let me know in the comments!
This holiday week, I’m sending you love and capybara dreams (with some llamas thrown in too).
