Melt These Hearts of Ice

For days now videos stream through
My conscience, showing violence and
Violation close to home in Minneapolis.

What did they do to deserve this?
Is there any precedent for all of it?
Can anything be done? No, really done?

Some months ago I donned my armor,
Bearing sword in hand at Ren Fest.
Now injustice rears its head and

I’m afraid to step outside.
Tonight I thought I’d walk and clear my head
Then realized—danger lurks STAY INDOORS

Surveillance lurks in every pocket,
Safety is a sham. Silence here’s a meager shield
And posts a glassy sword.

I’ll go to work, I’ll call and pray,
Please tell me what to do or say,
Here, in this moment, show the way.
