Things have settled down here. The remaining fire evacuation zones have been lifted, so we’re back to normal, except for the heavy smoke from another fire a little farther away. But that didn’t stop us from our annual pilgrimage to the light station.
If you’ve joined me since last spring, you may not know that Dave the Support Husband and I are lighthouse keepers. (I mentioned this in the author notes of A Rider’s Guide to Dragon Healing, so if it seems familiar, you might have read it there.) Every year, we spend a week with friends at the New Dungeness Lighthouse on the Strait of Juan de Fuca on Washington’s northern coast. The light is owned by the Coast Guard, but the New Dungeness Light Station Association (NDLSA) maintains the property.
In 2025 our week was in March, but this year it was in August. As keepers, we give tours of the museum and tower, polish the brass, mow the grass, complete seasonal chores, and clean the public bathrooms. We also have plenty of time to build puzzles, play games, and enjoy the company of our fellow keepers.

All eight of us are US Air Force veterans, so we often (always) annoy the association executive director by flying the Air Force flag under the Coast Guard pennant.
If you’d like to take a stint as a keeper, there’s a week in September currently available. Or wait until midnight on New Years’ Eve and submit your request for 2028.
I’m still plugging away on the new book. I think the title is going to be one of these three. Tell me which one you like best:

Right now, the bottom one is on the preorder, but I can change it--at least until I send the title to Mariah, my cover designer. Then it’s set in stone. And I need to do that soon! I like the middle one, but since the rest of the books are guides, It won’t match. I’m currently leaning toward the top one, if only to keep “dragon” in the title--so it matches the rest of the set. But I don’t know if all that will fit on the book! What do you think?
