The Beaver State Comicon was a ton of fun. We connected with other authors we sat next to last year and met a bunch of great folks, including these three:
Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather stopped by to bless my table. Their blessing must have been effective, as we sold more than enough books to break even on the table fee.
Breaking even seems like a pretty low bar, but only if you view the event in a purely transactional way.
As you know, I’m not just a romance author—I also write science fiction and fantasy. And Comicons, of course, are built for those genres. As I told a friend last year, these are my people. Writing books is a solitary enterprise. Comicon gives me a way to connect with my people. To see what they’re looking for. To join in their joy. How often do you get to meet the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty?
And as an extrovert, connecting with people is how I recharge. Connecting with my people: that’s the supercharger!
How do you recharge?
Not much has changed from my last note… except I’ve written the first 10,000 words of book 4 of the Dragons of Safe Haven!
That’s right, book 3 hasn’t even released yet, and I’m already over 10% into book 4. I was “supposed” to work on a different book—the last one in one of my sci fi series. But the characters from Safe Haven have been badgering the plotters in the writers’ room at the back of my brain. As they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
I got A Rider’s Guide to Dragon Healing back from my editor on Friday and I’m working my way through the edits. If you follow me on socials, you might see a few snippets. You can still preorder it, from my store, where you’ll get it early, or from Amazon, where it should arrive in KU around June 25th. I’ve backed that date up a few days from what I promised last time… and a few months from what Amazon was saying just last week. If that’s going to cause you a financial hardship, you have time to cancel your preorder. But I hope you won’t.
Instead of one book, this time I have a pair of group promotion that I think you’ll like. First up, series starters from a bunch of different no-spice romance authors. Some are in KU and some are available on all retailers. And every one of them has a series to binge after you read this one!
The second one is a bunch of “reader magnets.” That means free stories in exchange for your email address. It’s probably how you got onto my list! There are almost a hundred no-spice romances here, and every one of them is a complete story. And if you find one you love one, you can read the author’s other books. Find your new favorite author.
