The History of the Trier

We’re going to shake up the format a little bit this week. We’ll include links to the top Liverpool news and views swirling around the web right now (spoiler, there are plenty of transfer rumours), then proceed to the main subject about the club’s long history of the trier for the VIP subscribers who are signed up to the paid newsletter.

It’s an article I’ve wanted to write for some time, but the treadmill that is the Premier League hasn’t allowed me enough time to gather my thoughts and present them in a coherent fashion. I’ve no excuses now, it’s the close season and there’s a break in the World Cup too, so here goes...

The History of the Trier

For decades Liverpool have been one of the very best teams in the country, the world even. We may have ebbed and waned on occasions, particularly in the 90’s, but overall we’ve been fortunate to witness some of the best players on the planet wearing the red of Liverpool.

However, what I want to talk about is the triers - those players who may not have the natural talents of King Kenny, Stevie or Mo. This club has a long history of giving opportunities to players who may not light up a football field when they step onto the grass, players who know they aren’t as good as the other ten players in that team, but give it their all anyway.
