Abortion Bans Kill Women. Abortion Actually Saves Lives.

I want anyone who thinks that banning abortion might actually ‘save lives’, or label themselves as ‘pro-life’ to sit with this information for a moment.

Last night, while I was scrolling through social media as any person would on a Saturday night, I stumbled upon this post by FEMINIST and ReproRights.

10 different women, across different states, all died because of an abortion ban. All of their deaths were preventable.

Here are just few of the women who lost their lives:

Sick and bleeding with signs of a life-threatening infection, doctors kept sending her home because of Texas's abortion ban. When she finally returned critically ill, they wasted more time waiting for ultrasounds instead of saving her life.

“She was bleeding,” Nevaeh’s mom said. “Why didn’t they do anything to help it along instead of wait for another ultrasound to confirm the baby is dead?”

Nevaeh died from organ failure and sepsis, another preventable loss to an abortion ban that cared about a fetus more than a bleeding human.

Porsha died of hemorrhage at 35 while miscarrying. She was bleeding heavily and needed emergency surgery, but Texas’s abortion ban left her doctor afraid to perform the standard lifesaving procedure—a D&C—because it’s also used for abortions. Medical experts who reviewed her case said her death was preventable, and highlighted how the ban is forcing doctors to avoid the most effective treatments, putting patients at greater risk.

Hope now wears his and Porsha’s wedding rings around his neck. Porsha’s son plays with cards capturing memories of their late mother.

Yeni died at 27 while pregnant after suffering from severe pregnancy complications. Despite multiple hospital visits showing she was at extreme risk, doctors never discussed abortion as a lifesaving option. Medical experts confirmed that an abortion likely would have saved her life.

My heart sank with each and every swipe, and I could feel the anger rising in me at all the woman who died because of anti-abortion extremists who believe that a clump of cells deserves more rights than a woman.

This is the state of a woman’s healthcare in 2026.

I blinked back tears last night and decided right there and then that anyone who supports abortion doesn’t give a shit about the real human lives it costs. Healthcare is a right we women no longer deserve and that has been decided for us because of our ability to create life.

Who knows how many more are dying right now, as we speak? All of these women, who could have survived if accessible and safe abortions weren’t banned, are only a couple of stories gathered over the years from states who shared the data. What about the rest of the stories they buried? How many preventable deaths has the government kept a secret?

I can only imagine what their last words were, and what these women could have accomplished if abortion bans didn’t steal their last breath away.

This is exactly why I’m sick of us pretending that a woman’s access to healthcare is a controversial take that needs to be debated on.

Why don’t we debate on whether a man deserves healthcare? Oh right, the thought of that is too absurd to even consider. How can we deny 50% of the population their respective right to be taken care of medically? If there was a law that passed preventing men from accessing care for their erectile dysfunctions, the whole country would break into a civil war.

The patriarchy really convinced us all that healthcare that women need, which is literally a matter of life or death, is a political debate.

It’s a topic that Democrats campaign for, while the Republicans promise a harsher control over it.

Everything is political for women, whether we want it or not because the government, our politicians and men, all want to claim a stake on whether we deserve the right to emergency services that can save our lives.

If the Pro-life movement actually cared about protecting children, they wouldn’t be allowing child marriage to continue in 33 states across this country.

Child marriage is currently legal in 33 states. And while some states have finally started banning it—Delaware and New Jersey led the way in 2018—nearly 315,000 children as young as 10 were married in the U.S. between 2000 and 2021. Unchained At LastWPTA

But it gets worse.

If the pro-life movement cared about children, how could they support what’s happening right now?

Of the estimated 400,000 ICE detentions from the start of Trump’s second term in January 2025 to April 2026, Brookings estimates that about 205,000 children have had a parent detained, and that around 145,000 of those children—over 72 percent—are U.S. citizens. American children, ripped from their parents’ arms without warning.

CNN identified more than 100 US citizen children, from newborns to teenagers, who have been left stranded without parents because of immigration actions this year. These are kids who went to bed with their parents and woke up to find them gone. Only 6 and 9 years old, the siblings – both US citizens from Texas – didn’t understand who the men in tactical vests were or what “ICE” was. And they didn’t hear an officer tell their mom, Kenia, that they would be picked up by Child Protective Services and placed into foster care if she couldn’t find someone to take care of them.

But where are the pro-life activists protesting the detention centers? Where are the clergy members camping outside ICE offices? Where is the outrage over children being traumatized and separated from the people who love them?

If they cared about children, they’d fight ICE raids. If they cared about children, they’d make sure kids in their town had food, medicine, and a roof above their head.

And they already have the person who will make it happen.

Todd Blanche was just sworn in on Monday as US Attorney General, becoming the lawyer who will enforce—or refuse to enforce—the laws that protect your right to abortion care. What makes it worse is that he’s Trump’s former personal lawyer, one of the people who defended Trump through his trials. And now he controls the entire federal law enforcement apparatus.

Almost two weeks ago, before his confirmation was even sealed, Blanche got on a private call with faith leaders and told them what he really plans to do. He assured anti-abortion activists that the Trump administration is working to “make Dobbs permanent” nationwide, saying “We’re working, you know, hand in hand with — with HHS and the FDA and — and the White House and President Trump’s team to get permanent solutions, — so that the Dobbs decision becomes permanent in every single state.” He promised them all victory, very soon.

Victory? Over who? Oh right, women. Because that’s what this is about, complete control over what we choose to do with our bodies.

It means he’s not only fighting to keep abortion banned in the states that already banned it but he wants to stop abortion pills from being mailed across state lines altogether. He’s fighting to criminalize the act of helping someone travel to another state for care. He wants to weaponize the Comstock Act, to make it illegal to mail abortion medication anywhere in America.

And he’s already shown us exactly how far he’s willing to go.

As Acting Attorney General, Blanche helped gut enforcement of the FACE Act—the federal law protecting patients and providers from threats, intimidation, violence, and obstruction at reproductive health clinics.

Just last month, the DOJ, under Blanche’s leadership, cut a 7-figure taxpayer-funded settlement to a convicted FACE Act violator. That means your tax dollars went to pay off someone convicted of blockading an abortion clinic, to reward the man who violated the law protecting them.

The women dying right now are just the start.

This is why the leaders of the ‘Pro-life’ movement don’t care if you die. They only care about what anti-abortion extremists want. Blanche now has the entire federal law enforcement at his fingertips.

I don’t want to fear monger, but I can’t deny the reality and the future of abortion.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey signed a bill to end abortion limitations after 24 weeks, allowing later-term care for medical complications. On August 10, 2026, Massachusetts became the 10th state to allow abortion up to birth.

Healey said it plainly: “We believe that health care decisions should be made between women and families and their doctors, not politicians.” She signed the law because she came across stories of locals having to travel miles out of state in order to have their reproductive health needs met, ranging from maternal health complications and fatal diagnoses.

This is what fighting back means. And Massachusetts isn’t alone. The other nine states are: Alaska, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon and Vermont. Ten states plus D.C. that are saying: abortion is healthcare. Women are human beings that deserve healthcare just like men.

So what can you do?

Vote. Vote out every politician who sides with people like Todd Blanche. Vote in every election—local, state, federal. School board races matter, judges matter. Every vote matters because every vote is a choice about whether women’s lives matter.

Donate. If you have money, give it to abortion funds. Give it to organizations fighting for reproductive freedom. Donate to groups supporting women fleeing ban states and every dollar helps someone escape. Become a paying subscriber to feminist media outlets who report the truth, like the FEMINIST.

Speak up. Talk to your family, friends, anyone really. Tell them about Nevaeh, Porsha and all the women whose name we don’t know yet. Make it impossible for people to pretend this isn’t happening.

Protect each other. If you know someone who needs abortion care, help them travel and find resources.

The women dying right now don’t have time for debates or compromises. They don’t have time for moderate takes or “both sides” arguments. They only have time for action and for us to do anything.
