Tarrant County Republicans are trying to cut roughly 45% of Election Day voting sites and 8 early voting locations ahead of a midterm, hitting universities and Black communities the hardest.
Republicans Have Former Texas Lawmaker Dragged Out By Hands and Feet for Fighting Voter Suppression
Texans packed the Tarrant County Commissioners Court to fight the polling site cuts, so Republicans cleared the court room, had Vikki Goodwin removed for standing with voters, and had deputies carry former State Rep. Lon Burnam out by all four limbs before arresting him for speaking during his allotted time. The vote got tabled…for now…and it’s back on the agenda September 1.

At a Houston event marking 61 years since the Voting Rights Act, Gina Hinojosa shared that whoever controls the governor’s mansion and the Legislature controls how Texas draws the five new congressional seats it’s about to pick up. This could affect an entire generation of voters.
Trump’s Bulldozers Have Arrived to Destroy Big Bend National Park.
Construction crews started grading roads inside Big Bend National Park for a $1.72 billion border wall contract, the largest in U.S. history, that no one has any transparency on. Illegal crossings there are already nonexistent, and no one in charge has explained why the wall has to built through the park at all.
Galveston County Is Swapping Voting Maps Between the Primary and General Election
Galveston County is trying to change its district maps after the March primary and before the November general, using the same legal playbook that gerrymandered Tarrant County. Campaign Legal Center and the UCLA Voting Rights Project asked the Texas Supreme Court to block it, warning that if this stands, primaries in Texas stop meaning anything.
