Resistance Is Futile

25% of the neurons in our brain are activated by sensual stimulus, particularly touch. There is a push towards physical media again. Something we can touch, and be present with.

Hard copy books are increasing in sales again. In 2025 20% of all music was bought on vinyl or cd. Photography, especially nude photography, with its erotic nature, should be tangible, sensual, something that you can hold in your hands. The only way we counter the rush to all things not real is to create more real in the world. Merely talking about it isn’t being part of the solution. We have to be it in the world with our choices.

For example I have amassed a large vinyl record collection again in only 3 years, and forgot how enjoyable it was to be fully present with the record as a work of art as the musician intended. Similarly I have rebuilt my physical book library after trying for a decade to rely on tablet publications. I never read in full one of the 300 books I bought digitally, but since re-buying my hard copy book library I have 7 books being read at all times and read approximately 40 a year.

The more we drift towards the convenience of non-real, the more detached we become from ourselves, from each other and from the natural world upon which we depend. It is convenient to have millions of songs in my phone or thousands of books on a tablet. But I’m also more detached than ever from the music as art, as the artist intended. It’s now become a background track to the busyness of my life, versus a sensual, real, present experience. Similarly, the written word on a tablet is no longer a real tangible experience, just a collection of icons on a screen. As humans we only have a true relationship with something physical. Everything else is just the idea of a relationship.

The same is true of photography, especially erotic or nude photography. I love your artistic work with this publication. I only wish I could hold each magazine in my hands, have it spread out in a table, versus it being just another part of the digital drift. Making the magazine physical is one small act against the machine. I encourage you to consider this, in the spirit of this article. Resistance, in fact, isn’t futile. It’s the only real and true act we can take. If talk is cheap, thinking about acting is even cheaper. “Let’s get physical”.
