Golden Lights

Went to downtown Golden to go look at the lights with some family, and decided it was a B&W kind of night.

On mechanical watchmaking

I've been working to build out a side business building mechanical watches. While I'm a long ways from turning it into a business, I've been spending time building watches and learning how to repair them. As of this post, I've built about

On political violence

This is a post about the effects of the latest (as of the time of this writing) act of political violence in America. If you celebrated it, this isn’t for you.

The world is complicated, and full of grey areas. I've personally found it helpful to maintain a personal code of ethics; this essay is more or less a writeup of my journey to date, with a brief explanation of how I understand and apply certain virtues.

10% Chance of Rain

10% chance of rain: it made for a longer and more complicated day, but when it was all said and done, we got through it.

On Citizenship

At the end of the day, a Citizen must struggle against the decay of their minds, body, and character. Sometimes, that requires violence of action. Sometimes, that requires polite society to build for the future. Sometimes, that requires putting your shopping cart back in the corral.

Review: GORUCK MACV-1s

Right out of the box, they're pretty comfortable; I wore them for a couple walks around the block with a 5kg weight vest (the only packable weight I really had). I didn't have much in the way of discomfort. They look simple, clean.

LMT N°3: On the world as it is

Some of you may have forgotten about this newsletter - I know I did. Insert well-meaning platitudes about meaning to do this more regularly; for now, I'll just try to write this one :)

Some Notes on Ultralight Packing

I need to work on my packing strategies. Importantly, I’ve been learning that I pack too much stuff and that my packing is pretty disorganised. I needed to figure out how lighten and organize my load.
