Investigators said a witness reported to Airway Heights Police that they saw a man looking into the trees before seeing smoke in the area.

Illegal immigrant freed by Newsom-appointed judge day before deadly stabbing | 13 Aug 2026 | Marcos Iriarte-Valdez, alternatively identified by DHS as Marcos Valdezusper, was arrested Friday at his home in Contra Costa County, California, after police said he stabbed and killed 68-year-old retiree Todd Stewart during an apparent burglary attempt. Iriarte-Valdez was "legally admitted" to the U.S. in 2007, according to information provided by ICE. Iriarte-Valdez hails from Venezuela but has Spanish citizenship. The blonde teenager could be seen appearing to take a boxing stance and moving defensively toward the sea lion before kicking out at it as it sat near the water around midnight. The animal appeared to hop away from the teen as his friends laughed hysterically behind him. Muehl followed the animal and continued to kick at it.
