Everyone acts like they hate flock cameras, but what about the live monitoring towers?

This is a serious question. I heard Louis Rossmann discuss Live View Technologies (LVT) for the first time in a recent interview he gave in a discussion that had a segment which discussed flock cameras.

Popular sentiment has turned against flock cameras in a way that hasn’t occured with live monitoring tower companies yet (IMO). I am casually looking for signs of it but have yet to come across it. If I had to guess, flock cameras give the first impression that they’re literally just for mass surveilance. People rightfully do not like this, even if the underlying intentions are good. I believe this is contrasted enough by the monitoring towers, as they are usually percieved as being using them to keep some sort of asset safe rather than indiscriminate surveillance of everyone.

In my day to day job, I usually respond to several leak alarms. I can’t describe how useful it would be to have video of these leaks so that I know which were erroneous, small, or serious and in need of immediate action. With an alarm going off in a chiller, I don’t know if a sump pump has sprang a leak or if condensation settled onto a lone sensor. Both take 10 minutes to respond to. And this is true enough in the broad literal sense of flood monitoring that live monitoring has literally manifested critical infrastructure for flood monitoring in certain areas of Florida (LVT).

It’s my hope that live monitoring towers become appreciated for what they accomplish rather than despised like currently Flock is. I largely see them as something which enhances the safety & capability of all first responders. It’s a surprisingly strong coat of armor to give to everyone & I’d hate to see the crowd turn against it.
