You know like the opposite of embiggen

Quick and hopefully pain-free programming note for any regular readers: I’ve changed the URLs for all of my articles.

If you use my RSS feed, you might have some duplicate entries clogging up your reader. Sorry ’bout that. Should be a one-time thing.

Following a bit of advice from Matt Gemmell, my blog posts articles no longer have /blog in the URL.

For example, the last thing I posted was at /blog/take-the-dang-picture; now it’s /take-the-dang-picture. That just feels more like my definitive take.

Similarly, there’s no longer a /blog landing page; it’s /writing now. Maybe back in 2012 when I was sharing little things sometimes five times a day(!) I think I would call what I was doing “blogging,” but these days that doesn’t seem quite right. I added a separate page that collects all my favorite articles I’ve posted over the years, and that drove home for me that what I mostly do here (when I’m not stalling redesigning) is write; the reverse chronological feed feels less critical to that experience.

Not there’s anything wrong with blogs or blogging! They’re great! If you have one, awesome! (Post more, maybe!)

In theory, cool URLs don’t change, but 301 redirects exist for a reason. Hopefully now my article URLs are now [pushes glasses up nose] all the cooler.

I did a bunch of testing around this, but I am an imperfect human and the automated tools I’m using are surely also imperfect. If you see something that looks broken, maybe let me know? Thanks!
