THE GHOUL OF GAZA

I attended a private viewing of physical evidence gathered from October 7th. There were also items found in Gaza during the war.

Amongst the items were the clothes and personal artifacts in Sinwar’s possession when he was killed. Sinwar was the architect of October 7th and everything shit that has occurred in your life since then.

Prior to visiting the exhibit I had some concerns. I was worried about the grisly power that could be bestowed upon such objects. That they could become invested with a dark aura and become talismans charged with a taboo energy.

This is the danger when it comes Nazi memorabilia or artifacts that belonged to Hitler.

I also imagined myself feeling something when I saw the items. That somehow seeing objects touched and owned by the person who triggered this life changing chaos would create a profound moment. These were my concerns.

When I saw the items I felt nothing.

What I saw was pathetic. It was just a bundle of crap belonging to a dirty tramp. It had no power. It was just crap. Some shitty hobo shoes and some crap vest with blood on it. It was utterly banal and uncaptivating. I moved on to look at other things without giving it a second thought.

Near the start of the war I remember discourse that Sinwar would become a hate figure memoralised in Jewish consciousness like a Haman or a Hitler. There were pronouncements that one day we’d make a hamantaschen equivalent and boo his name. But I remember when it was announced he’d been killed. It felt like we’d all moved on from that news the very next day. There was more important stuff to do. Like winning a war. And staying alive. And getting the hostages back.

That’s all still going on. When was the last time you even thought of Sinwar?
