This will be a short post. I’m in Malibu with my sweetie, celebrating his birthday and I’m writing this on my iPad, which I find awkward to write on. Monday, June 29, is the Strawberry moon. The name came from the Algonquian tribes and the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples. The June moon is low in the sky, so it passes through a thick layer of atmosphere, causing the light to scatter, which can give the moon a reddish hue, and of course, June is strawberry season. You can read more about all the full moons at the Farmer’s Almanac. Someday I might just write a poem about each moon. Here is the Strawberry Moon.1

Strawberry Moon
We turn toward summer
a moment on the lawn
with the neighbor and his dog
Our cat looks out
from the sliding glass door
keeping track as we start up the walk,
away from the door we’ve locked
shades we’ve closed
home we’ve put to bed
toward a moon almost full
like so many strawberries
picked too soon, not quite ripe
