It’s official. The holidays are over.

It’s race week and tens of thousands of people will soon be heading to Zandvoort for the last iteration of the Dutch Grand Prix.

It’s a place that I have always enjoyed regardless of what I’ve been covering there. I’ve been there for the F3 Masters, A1 GP and also Formula One.

But even with a draw

like Max Verstappen, the circuit could not make the numbers work. Last year, despite having a Dutch world champion, the place wasn’t sold out, not that you would know it as the atmosphere was incredible. And even though it wasn’t a home victory, it made no difference. The parties continued regardless.

It’s a brilliant old-school circuit and although there have been changes over the years, like at so many of these tracks to cater for the current F1 cars and safety improvements, I can’t help but think that the Dutch GP will be a loss to the calendar.

McLaren have won it the last two years. Oscar Piastri had pole and went on to win last year and Lando Norris did the same in 2024. The previous three years were won from pole by Verstappen. The obvious point is that pole seems to have a big advantage here, but whether that is the case this year remains to be seen.
