Join BRICKS’ Learner Platform for an exclusive online workshop with photographer and director Charlie Barclay-Harris, exploring how to capture great live music photography when you only have a few minutes to get the shot.
For most live music photographers, the photo pit offers a very limited window (often just the first three songs) to capture the images you need. In this practical session, Charlie will share what he’s learned about working within those constraints: how to make creative decisions quickly, anticipate the moment, work with the light and movement in front of you, and come away with a varied set of images when there’s no time to hang around and wait for the perfect shot.

A photographer and director from North Wales and now based in Bristol, Charlie has built a portfolio spanning live music, portraiture and editorial, working with artists including Charli XCX, Addison Rae, Yungblud, Magdalena Bay and Geese. He is currently on tour with Fontaines D.C., and his recent published works include shooting MUNA for the cover of Dork Magazine and Audrey Hobert for The Guardian.
Charlie has also shot for BRICKS, photographing our #15 I Support You issue’s Portraits series, which spotlighted working-class designers in London. Our relationship with Charlie actually began through The Learner Platform, when he was commissioned to photograph Beabadoobee live in Bristol for BRICKS – so we’re particularly excited to welcome him back to the platform for this session.
Whether you’re an aspiring music photographer, already shooting live shows, or simply looking to get better at working quickly and creatively, this virtual workshop will offer practical insights into Charlie’s approach to live music photography, from preparation and composition to making the most of every second in front of the stage.
