Before we dive into Night In With, I just want to take a moment to thank you all for the love and support on the The 5–9 TV Tray Table launch. I’m truly blown away by the response. The New York Times, Vogue, and Architectural Digest features are amazing, but there’s also the Substack mentions, Instagram comments, and DMs that really shape a community. I’m trying to be better about letting the wins in and actually feeling them—so I’m starting with practicing gratitude, and I’m thankful for you.

Welcome to Night In With, a series spotlighting friends of lazy jamie and their ideal Friday night at home. Imagine this: you spot a light on in a fabulous apartment window—but you actually get to go inside. That’s Night In With.
There are influencers, and there are tastemakers. Margot Lee is the latter.
One scroll through her Instagram or TikTok, and it’s quite obvious that Margot has that je ne sais quoi.
Her content strikes a balance that many emulate but few can ever attain. It’s warm and has personality. She has style but is still approachable. She’s gorgeous yet she still feels like a familiar friend.
Margot is also the founder of No Particular Order, a prompt-style journal and conversation starter home decor brand that was born out of her own journaling practice.
Tonight I’m excited to have a conversation with Margot about her ideal night in.
Picture your perfect Friday night at home. Who’s there with you?
Three of my girlfriends are slowly trickling in. One is sitting at my kitchen island, one is on the couch, and one is behind the island, helping me prepare a little snack board.
Walk me through the room. Where are we?
We’re starting the night in the kitchen, pouring glasses of wine or seltzer, creating the snack board, and lighting the candles, before making our way to my terrace. My apartment has this really special, feminine, comfortable energy that carries to the outdoor space, so our night flows easily between the two.
What are you wearing?
It’s amazing my SKIMS waffle knit sweatpants haven’t started unraveling considering how often I wear them (almost daily since I bought them and countless turns in the washing machine). On top, I’m wearing some sort of knitwear (if it’s new, it’s probably Sezane, if it’s old, it’s my Yaya’s). Before we head outside, I divvy out Sabah slippers for the girls to wear. It’s my dream to own 10+ pairs so my guests can choose and wear them throughout the night.
What’s in your glass?
My cousin knows a lot about wine, so usually whatever she brings over. We love Gamay Beaujolais. She recently brought over a really amazing Clos du Tue-Boeuf La Butte Touraine 2021. I think all the girls took a photo of the label before we polished it off.
What are we eating?
This salad is my party trick during warmer months. Now that it’s cold, my go-to is my Yaya’s avgolemono (Greek chicken lemon) soup. Secret family recipe—sorry!
What are you watching or listening to?
Lily Allen’s “West End Girl” on repeat. We’re pausing conversations to listen to her loud-and-clear storytelling lyrics.
What’s your night-in guilty pleasure?
I’ll bring out my own product… I own a paper goods brand and have launched two editions of Conversational Coasters. Each question was inspired by really amazing conversations I’ve had at dinner parties, so they’re tried and true.
How is this different from five years ago?
I just moved into a new apartment, and it’s the first place I’ve lived that’s really prime for hosting. In my last (studio) apartment, I hated hosting and thought it was me. Turns out it was because my kitchen was about 3” wide and I had one seat for guests. Now that I have the space (and dishwasher), hosting has become a more casual affair. I love it.
What’s your non-negotiable?
No overhead lights. Lol.
What time are you going to bed, and do you have any sleep hacks?
Bedtime is different every night. Last week, I went to bed at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday (I was sick, ok?) and 2 a.m. on Sunday (editing a journal for print on a deadline with my designer). Ideally, I’d be knocking at 10 p.m. every night.
I just got a humidifier, which is very exciting… and I can’t fall asleep without my NodPod.
