My baby Ángel arrived 3 weeks and 1 day early, now 7 weeks ago. So I’m quiet online for right now and the foreseeable future.
I’ve actually been writing a lot while he sleeps for hours daily, but nothing is getting to a finished state. I’m resisting my urge to use AI to help me structure my scattered thoughts—not because that makes me better but because in the age of AI, struggling through a creative process is my new goal. I’m actually raw-dogging it right now typing directly into the Substack editor. No grammar corrections. No proofreaders.
Some people write to an outline where they know exactly what they are trying to say. I write like tangled yarn that I have to find my way out of. The untangling is the part I have a love/hate relationship with. I’ve been working on a post for over a month and have gone to 3 writing group calls to help me get a handle on it. I printed out 8 pages and then re-wrote it with a Mead spiral bound notebook and ballpoint pen trying to reconfigure the piece to make it make sense. But it still has a long way to go.
So I’ll leave you with this Grief and Pizza podcast episode of Tiago and I being interviewed by Marie Polin and Benjamin Borowski. We talk about how the community-driven culture of Mexico is shaping both our personal lives, our business, and family. I talk about my process of writing my book as well as my process of journaling and review rituals. We also discuss our thoughts on AI.
Now I’m off to go breastfeed. Actually, I’m already breastfeeding and using a voice-to-type feature to finish this off.
Nos vemos.
