Retreat Is Not a Luxury. It’s a Practice.

This morning I took two yoga classes back-to-back.

The first was slow. Gentle. Intentional.
The second required more strength and breath.

Somewhere in that first class, lying on my mat, I realized something.

What I’m doing right now—this 30-day solo stretch of travel, movement, quiet mornings, long walks, journaling, seeing friends lightly but mostly being alone—is a retreat.

But I didn’t enroll in one. I built it.

Yes, I booked the flights.
Yes, I rented the Airbnb.

But I didn’t pay for a program. There’s no facilitator. No printed schedule. No welcome packet waiting on the bed.

Just structure I created for myself.

And that’s when it clicked:

Retreat doesn’t have to be expensive.
It has to be intentional.

You can do this in a new town. In a hotel. In an Airbnb.
You can also do it at home.

Because the place you’re traveling to isn’t geographic.
It’s internal.

We’ve turned “wellness” into something you purchase…a weekend, a five-day immersion, a breakthrough experience.

And I want to be clear: I believe deeply in immersive retreats. The Hoffman Process was one of the most important things I’ve ever done for myself. It changed me in ways I’m still unpacking.

This isn’t a knock on retreats.

It’s an acknowledgment that even the most powerful experience is a catalyst.

The real change happens afterward.

It happens in the quiet mornings when no one is watching.
In the journaling you don’t post.
In the walks you take instead of scrolling.
In the silence with yourself.
In the discipline of showing up to your own growth.

In the integration.

You can spend $5,000 on a retreat and go home unchanged.

Or you can build one intentional day for yourself and slowly alter the trajectory of your life.

That’s what this month is teaching me.

Ritual is what makes retreat sustainable.
Retreat is what keeps ritual meaningful.

And both are accessible.

You don’t need to fly anywhere.
You don’t need an expensive program.
You need structure.

This month has reminded me that retreat isn’t an escape.
It’s a return.

A return to rhythm.
To self-trust.
To your own inner guidance.

And that can begin exactly where you are.

I’ve turned the structure I’m using into a simple one-day self-guided retreat. If you’re looking for a place to begin, you can subscribe and I’ll send it to your inbox.

No pressure. Just a starting point.

Transit.
Not a place.
A passage.

And you can enter it whenever you’re ready.

I’ll be seeing you,

Lauren Schwec
