We are doing something new this week. It’s a collaborative post by me (Lauren) and the incredible Viva Mogi.
Viva and I went to policy school together. Look how cute we were.
We are still cute. AND we have an idea. Well, Viva had the idea, but I LOVE running with a good idea.
In fact, I’ve been known to get so excited that I occasionally take off before the race has even started.
Some people call this a false start. Other people just start sprinting too, buzzer be damned.
Viva is the latter.
That’s why we are friends.
We are creating a civic co-working space for the next three months.
The concept is simple—a virtual meetup for 30 minutes every other Thursday. Dedicated time for consistent civic action leading up to midterms.
We will show up, say hello, everyone will do 15-20 minutes of civic engagement work of their choice (I’m writing postcards this week!), then end with a quick closing check in.
Back to work/life/kids after half an hour.
There are no assignments, no requirements—just community. But if you need inspiration I’m starting a running list of ideas and resources you can pull from. Make sure you are subscribed so you don’t miss it next week.
The goal: to do something. We know life gets busy, and sometimes it’s hard to find the time to read a ballot initiative, sign up to volunteer, contact an elected official, learn about an issue, or take that first small step.
But we need to make the time.
And if we are going to do this work, we might as well do it together!
