We will be partnering with SciFiction.com in September and placing six science fiction books that are on special offer at $0.99 on SciFiction.com for the last two weeks of September.

If you’d like to be part of this, let me know. Email: laurence@bgsadmin.com

The package will be:

  • $150 for Facebook ads

  • $150 for the scifiction.com placement

  • $100 for the setup and management

As you’ve probably seen many people are now able to translate their books on KDP into five languages - free.

What concerned me was the nuances and the technical language that might get lost in AI translation.

So I translated one book first and did some Amazon ads for it to see if it would be accepted by the reading public in Germany. It was. It got a 4.1 overall score after a month and no one-star or two-star reviews. And the book has been selling steadily since. The lack of one-star reviews, I think, tells me that the language translation was good enough for the readers in Germany.

I don’t think this would work so easily if the book was a highly technical nonfiction book or it was perhaps a literary novel with lots of obscure literary devices.

What do you think of using AI to translate books? Specifically Amazon AI, which is free of charge.

I would be very unlikely to pay the $3,000 per book that this series needs to use a human translator and proofreader.

The risk is simply too high that no money would come back or it would be a real loss. For a series it’s just impossible to justify the risk.

No human has lost a translation job because of the above.

If you do want to try it, I suggest you start with one book and then run Amazon ads to test reactions. We can do them for you to see if it will sell in the most appropriate country for that title.

Yes, we will give away a $500 ads campaign or credit towards services.

The closing date for this competition has been extended until Friday 7th August. That way we can announce the winner at our International Dublin Writers Festival the following weekend on the 15th of August.

Do you want to have your book announced at our festival? Do you want to win $500 in services?

The competition is about first lines.

Please use the comments below to post a first line. You can like anyone else’s first line that you think is good but not your own, please. The first line with the most positive comments/Likes, which also meets a general criteria for a great first line, will win.

There will be multiple opportunities during July to post your first line so please get it ready or comment now
