Volume 4 of my candidate conversations is perfect for Sean McCann, the candidate from Michigan’s 4th District. Please take a few minutes to get to know him.

Sean McCann is a husband and father and has served as a local and state elected official in the Kalamazoo, Michigan, area for the last 21 years. He’s now looking to bring about the same great change he’s brought to Michigan to Congress!

Kalamazoo is in southwestern Michigan, about halfway between Detroit and Chicago. It is currently represented by Bill Huizenga, “who is lockstep with Donald Trump and his policies, and an absolute total, complete, rubber stamp for him in Congress. No resistance, no questioning, no concerns about where we’re going with the policies.

And also, [he is] not really present in the district; he hasn’t had a town hall or a public community interface with the public since 2018.”

To make matters worse, Huizenga also voted for the Bill Ugly Bill, reversing health care access and denying the ACA tax credits for thousands of his neighbors in MI-04. In this district, people are seeing their health care premiums increase by 200-300%.

There are basic foundational things that you should do as a Representative in Congress – one of them includes holding town hall meetings.

Sean’s experience reminded me of my own journey to Congress in 2018 -- feeling motivated to run after feeling betrayed by a largely absent republican representative who voted to take away my access to affordable health care.

It’s terrible that once again we find ourselves having to defend our communities against Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress continuing to strip Americans of affordable health care!

But that’s why I’m grateful Sean decided to run. Sean is committed to hearing from his voters, just as he has regularly done as a state Representative and Senator, hosting coffees and community conversations.

And right now, Michigan voters are reporting that rising costs are becoming too much – whether it’s at the grocery store or the gas pump.

“That’s a direct result of what’s happening with Trump’s war of choice in Iran, this reckless war that he undertook with no real exit strategy. And now it’s stressing our economy here locally, nationally, globally; it’s just a huge mess.”

On top of the war in Iran, Donald Trump’s tariffs are causing strain and instability for small businesses in Sean’s community.

But Sean is laser-focused on reducing costs:

  • He wants to reverse our course on the cost of health care – “we can’t have fewer people on health insurance and have a sicker population.”

  • He wants to tackle the tariffs and corruption – “we can’t be giving tax breaks to billionaires. That’s the other piece that came with the big ugly bill.”

  • He wants to focus on better engagement and accessibility with constituents on a local and national level

And because of these things, Sean is primed to flip MI-04! He’s committed to his constituents, and he knows that they deserve better than what this administration is providing.

“There are thousands of people who have been at No Kings rallies, hundreds of people at town halls, at fundraisers that we’re having in the district. The turnout and energy are off the charts… we’re ready to go. We’re anxious, almost wish the election were tomorrow.”

So folks, we need to make sure that we send Sean to Congress. Here’s how you can get involved in his race:

First, you can become a small-dollar donor to his campaign. Speaker Mike Johnson has personally put half a million dollars into MI-04 against Sean. Click here to donate to Sean’s campaign>>>

Travel to Southwestern Michigan to knock on doors for Sean! If you’re in the Chicagoland area, it’s less than a three-hour drive up to Kalamazoo.

They also need folks to make phone calls or write postcards. You can sign up for all of the volunteer opportunities here>>>

I know I’ll be heading up to Michigan soon, so I hope to see you there!!

Michigan has a late primary election this year – Sean’s primary is not until August 4th, and then he’ll have to turn it right around and win a general election three months later. So, that means he needs your support now!

And when he shows up in January as Congressman McCann – day one, he said he is focused on,

“End Citizens United is a huge issue, right? I mean, that’s really something that’s affected our communities and our elections terribly over the years. It’s just allowed those unfettered billionaire dollars to flow into our elections. So I would love to see that done away with

Stock trading by members of Congress, based on inside information, that’s got to go, too.

And then let’s put the ACA tax credits back in place. Let’s expand healthcare again and get our country well again.”

Those all sound like things we can do when we’re back in the majority, so LET’S GO!!

Please support Sean McCann and our other Red to Blue candidates, and win back the House majority! Thank you for your support and for learning more about our candidates.

Onward!
