While my husband Tom and I were lucky enough to meet through the dating app, Plenty of Fish (though it was more than luck, it was the fortitude I developed from years of online dating), lots of people are fed up with dating apps and are looking for alternatives. It’s been a few decades since I played Yenta in junior high. Now, I’ve embarked on a different kind of matchmaking. Tom and I recently started volunteering at the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center, where we’re part of a team that helps humans find their four-legged companions. Here’s one of the happy kitties, Minnow, who recently found her forever home. If you’ve been ready to bring home your own cat or dog, please stop by your local shelter. In August, I got to visit with many friends from my days back at SUNY Purchase, some of whom I hadn’t seen for forty years. It was a joyful series of reunions, including with dancers and former creative collaborators Lani Nahele and David Thomson. Do you have any old friends you haven’t seen in years? Maybe it’s time to look one of them up.
