Midlife, Made Simple: She said... "I Don't Know Where to Start?"

Midlife be crazy, simple as that.

We often have adult kids that still need our attention.

Aging parents that are needing attention.

We have decades of cumulated stress sitting in our muscles.

Just to name a few challenges…

AND all of a sudden, our bodies do a 180 and everything changes.

If you know, you know!

Apply what always worked in the past: drastically cut calories, exercise hard, take sleep aids (they worked before…), drank a bit more wine…

But it doesn’t work.

You actually gain weight (what the what?), sleep is worse, energy tanks more.

Gah!

If you don’t give up (which would be 100% understandable), you start researching.

And you learn you need to:

  1. Eat more protein.

  2. Eat more fiber.

  3. Lift heavier weights.

  4. Walk 10,000 steps in Zone 2.

  5. Wear a weight vest.

  6. Stretch more.

  7. Drink more water.

  8. Improve our gut health.

  9. Reduce inflammation.

  10. Balance our hormones.

  11. Meditate.

  12. Journal.

  13. Sleep 8+ hours.

  14. Reduce stress.

  15. Relax daily.

Phew! Am I right?

Anyone feel a little overwhelmed with that?

BUT you are game. Let’s do this!

And declare: “This is the week I’m finally going to get healthy?”

You clean out the pantry.

You buy more vegetables.

You promise yourself you’ll wake up early to exercise.

You download a meditation app.

You order supplements you’ve been hearing about.

You decide you’re giving up sugar, drinking more water, going to bed earlier, strength training three days a week, walking every day, and finally becoming “one of those people” who meal preps on Sundays.

For a few days, you’re feeling pretty good.

Then life happens.

Work gets busy.

Someone gets sick.

You’re tired.

You miss one workout.

The vegetables wilt in the refrigerator.

Suddenly that brand-new wellness routine feels impossible to keep up with, and before long you’re convinced you’ve failed... again.

If you’ve ever found yourself in that cycle, I want you to hear this:

You are not failing at wellness. You’re trying to overhaul your life all at once.

The wellness industry has become incredibly noisy.

Here’s the thing...

Most of that advice isn’t wrong. (You know, the list from above?)

The problem is that we try to do all of it at the same time.

Wellness slowly becomes another full-time job.

Instead of helping us feel better, it leaves us feeling overwhelmed before we’ve even begun.

There’s another reason giant wellness overhauls rarely last.

Your brain and nervous system are designed to conserve energy and maintain the status quo.

Every new habit requires attention, decisions, and mental effort.

When you try to change ten things at once, you’re asking your brain to constantly make decisions all day long - and it doesn’t have that much decision making energy!

Should I work out now?

What should I eat?

Did I drink enough water?

Should I meditate?

Did I forget my supplements?

It’s exhausting.

And when you’re already navigating midlife—with changing hormones, aging parents, busy careers, relationships, or simply carrying decades of responsibility—you probably don’t have endless mental energy to spare.

The answer isn’t more discipline.

The answer is fewer decisions.

Instead of asking yourself,

“How do I completely change my life?”

Try asking,

“What’s one small thing that would help me feel just a little better?”

That’s where lasting change begins.

Not with perfection.

Not with a complete life makeover.

Just one next step.

One habit.

One choice.

One act of kindness toward yourself.

Because here’s something I’ve learned after decades of coaching women:

You don’t need a better wellness plan.

You need one that’s simple enough to fit your real life.

Let’s start with the main pillars of wellness for midlife women, the places you need to focus on.

  1. Better quality sleep: When in doubt, start here. Poor sleep effects everything. Deeper sleep helps you with stress (which effects weightloss), brain health, cell restoration. Plus, you will have more energy and focus to be able to more of what we are talking about here!

  2. True Relaxation: To help you control your cortisol, our stress hormone. We become more sensitive to stress at this stage in life. When we feel stressed and cortisol is released, it leads to belly fat, poor sleep, etc.

  3. Start moving | exercise | strength training: If we don’t use it, we lose it, and that’s very apparent with our bodies! We start losing muscle mass in our 30s if we aren’t using them and that loss just accelerates as we age.

  4. Diet: Shifting the focus to protein and fiber intake, and more than you can imagine! (Or at least that has been my experience with everyone I have worked with - and me!)

  5. Reducing Environmental toxins: We are exposed to toxins every day, water, air, products we have in our home (cleaning products, personal care products, and more). These toxins effect hormones, energy, focus and so much more. (Plus, changes this area is the easiest change you can make - you don’t need to cultivate a new habit, you just need a new product.)

Pick ONE pillar: Choose the pillar you find the most challenging. (When in doubt, start with sleep.)

Pick ONE a habit: Make it uber-simple. Super simple. You should have a feeling of “Sheesh, I can do that!” Then go!

Once it feels like a habit (meaning you no longer have to think it or “make” yourself do it), add another step.

KEEP IT SUPER SIMPLE.

Write it all down: The most important key to all of this is to be intentional. Write down what you are working on. Track whether or not you do it. No loosy goosy, be on it.

SIMPLY :: well:

It can be overwhelming. I get it! Where do you begin? What’s the priority? And these are changes you want to make for now and forever, not just a month or two, so how do you incorporate them into your life?

It’s why I created SIMPLY :: well, simplified wellness for midlife women.

It’s for the woman who is tired of overthinking everything…

tired of trying to figure out what actually works…

and ready for something that feels supportive instead of overwhelming.

Inside, we focus on small, meaningful steps that create real change over time.

Because transformation doesn’t come from doing everything.

It comes from doing the right things—consistently, with support.

Knowing you want to feel better is one thing.

Knowing where to begin is something else entirely.

Inside today’s subscriber section, I’ll walk you through initial suggestions for each of the pillars. I’ll get you started with simple steps!

No complicated routines.

No starting over every Monday.

Just a gentle roadmap that meets you where you are—and helps you build momentum one small step at a time.
