*Mild Spoilers

I went into this very open minded, I didn’t love the 4th film but I didn’t want to go into this film thinking to negatively. I am a massive Toy Story fan, Woody has always been one of my favourite film characters so I was pretty excited for another instalment. I understand these films are never going to be the same as the original trilogy but when you think of it as a new trilogy with hopefully a 6th film it brings the joy back into it. After this film I’ve started to love Bonnie, considering she was the last kid to get a Lilypad I’m glad Andy left his toys with her.

Personally I loved this film It made me cry so many times (I always expect to cry during a Toy Story film ever since the 3rd but it got me so much more this time, it was so heart warming. I love that if focused more on Jessie than Woody, his story is definitely over now and I feel like we really saw Jessie heal in this story, when she found out Emily named her daughter after her. That was such a special moment that Jessie deserved to have. As kids we care so much about our toys, If we ever lose one It can really crush a child but watching Toy Story and seeing that the toys care about their kids is so magical the way they’re always looking out for them and making sure their childhoods are special.

This also made me feel really bad about my toys from childhood being in the attic, I just know they hate it up there. I also find it so sad that I also grew up to become an iPad kid, I was a little older than Bonnie but still I stopped playing and using my imagination for the sake of subway Surfers and Temple Run and it did not do me any good.

I have come out of this film wanting desperately to reduce my screen time and to think more carefully about when I am using screens. Time to stop doom scrolling and be more productive and get my imagination back.

4/5

I can’t wait to watch this again.
