My grandmother is Puerto Rican, and this is the only thing I have in common with Irish-American Jeanine Cummins, author of American Dirt. I discovered this similarity in an article riddled with excuses Cummins made to justify insensitively capitalizing on immigrant trauma when she is, in fact, entirely removed and unaffected by the burdens undocumented immigrants are facing.
