Laura Atkins · Laura’s Manzanita Substack

Hey all,

I’ll be doing a post soon with a recap of the launch event at Mrs. Dalloway’s on Monday, which was amazing. I had community show up in a big way and I was able to shout out to all the people who helped bring this book into the world. More to come. In the meantime, you can buy a signed copy from Mrs. Dalloway’s and either pick it up or get it sent to you. For the latter, just note “send signed copy” in the comments section of your order.

An array of Point Reyes loveliness

For now, a short message to say that I’m doing an event tomorrow at 10:30 am at the Dance Palace in Point Reyes Station. Point Reyes is one of my favorite places in California! I’ve my whole life going there - to visit the light house, to hike with the Tule Elk, to spend time communing with the ocean. And I worked on different parts of this book at beaches in Point Reyes - Limantour, Abbott’s Lagoon, Shell Beach. Bringing Bringing the Beach Home to Point Reyes feels like a true homecoming.

More About the Event

I’m also over the moon about all the partners with this event: The Mesa Refuge (where I did a residency a few years back), Point Reyes Books, Environmental Action Committee of West Marin, Marin County Free Library, and Point Reyes National Seashore Association. These are all important parts of the West Marin community - protecting the land, providing books for children and adults, and helping us all connect to this beautiful place.

Please come along if you can, and let folks know if they will be in the area. I’m super excited about the craft activity I’ll be facilitating. It really will be great for people of any age.

With big love,

Laura

Bringing the Beach Home (July 1, 2025) with the Collective Book Studio. I was a featured interview in Kirkus Reviews talking about the book’s creation. And here’s a book guide with activites and inspiration.

"Delicately warm and lovely. This is an understated yet graceful portrait of a child channeling negative feelings into something beautiful." —Kirkus Reviews
