Most people have been using Chrome forever. I only recently came back to it after switching for years.

But I set it up with as many of the features I started loving and relying on from the competition. Yesterday, during a screen sharing session, a client of mine stared at my vertical tabs, tab groups and AI sidebars and went:

“Wait… Chrome has all this?!”

When software becomes familiar, we stop exploring it. We learn enough to do our work, turn those actions into habits, and freeze that version of the tool in our heads.

Meanwhile, the software keeps changing underneath us. Of course, this isn’t just a browser problem.

Teams buy new tools, migrate systems and retrain people to gain capabilities that may already exist in software they own.

New tools still matter. Arc, Dia and Atlas pushed browsers in new directions. But innovation spreads. Yesterday’s reason to switch can quietly become today’s setting.

Before adding another tool, revisit the familiar one, ask what has changed since you last made the decision.

You may still switch. But at least you’ll be comparing today’s options, not a new tool against your memory of an old one.

If you’re unsure whether your business needs another tool, or a better use of what it already has, take the Next Tech Move Diagnostic.

It takes about four minutes and helps identify your most useful next technology move.
