Hello and welcome back to Late Filing – on a rare Saturday night, just about. For my sins, I am editing this week’s issue of The Digest instead of going out-out with my friends Kitty and Alia. Please excuse any typos, although apparently they’re a flex now. (I invite you to Pangram this issue.)
Here’s what I have for you: dinner at a new sushi bar in Soho; a pub that’s hosting a Carnival afterparty; a bunch of great stories about the most powerful people in fashion; an expensive multivitamin I’m afraid is working; an IKEA collab; plus book clubs, book shows and ‘book culture’ in general.
As usual, paid subscribers get access to all four sections for just £5 a month – plus a very fun feature in your inbox tomorrow.
See you soon.
Nine things worth shopping this week
Every so often, I get sent some odd wellness bits and I try very hard not to add anything new to my routine. I’ve been good so far. The latest arrival was a box of IM8, the 90-ingredient multivitamin drink you might have seen David Beckham advertising. (He’s a co-founder.) I’d tried a couple sachets before and not thought about it again but this time it was a 30-day supply and so I’ve been consistent enough to see whether it’s doing anything. A few weeks in, I’m pretty annoyed to say that I’ve noticed my skin has been glowier and my eyes have been brighter. I can’t put it down to anything else because I’ve eaten terribly, not worked out and barely slept. I also gave some to my mum, who’s not remotely wellness-pilled, and she’s already bought another box. What this means is I’ve got a few days to win the lottery so I can restock. £101 for the starter kit (10% off with link)
I thought I’d seen everything there is to see from Tekla but I went into Marylebone store and stumbled across these sateen pyjamas, which look so good (lustrous but not shiny) and feel even better. If money were no object, I’d give a lot of it to these guys. £345 for the shirt and £295 for the bottoms
I’m into that whole Courrèges look right now. This skirt I featured a while back is on sale (still obsessed with her). This Heather T-shirt is the next target. £260
The team at Olivia von Halle (who – full disclosure - I sometimes consult for) lent me a few dresses once I realised I had nothing to wear to last Saturday’s wedding. I went for their fringed Zoya in brown from a past season, so sadly no link, but this Paloma dress was also one I requested and I’d really like to hold onto it for a special trip to Southeast Asia, if they’ll let me. (Please.) £690
I think there’s something very endearing but also smart about a matching hat and raincoat. The Paddington look. When you’re ready to face the reality that summer is almost over, maybe check out this ‘boonie’ from Rains. £35
Ikea has released a new collab collection called Konstrunda with global designers and artists. This table from Londoner Andu Masebo is my favourite thing in there. £149
This belted denim jacket from Soeur has gone straight onto the wishlist. Would white denim even work for autumn? I don’t care – I’m going to make it. £x
I am once again breaking the ‘no cheap shoes’ rule. About an hour before the wedding last Saturday I ran out to Zara (chaotic, I know) to get those floral heels from last week’s Digest and they didn’t have them so I instead got these slingbacks. Lower and blockier than I’d usually go for a wedding, because it was in a garden, and not really much to write home about in terms of design. Obviously they’re not leather. But they’re insanely versatile and I’ve already worn them again since. £34.99
Cos has a big sale on right now and this ruched top is in it. It’s made from jersey so you could wear it out for lunch and feel like you’re in a T-shirt while looking like you’ve made a bit of an effort. Making an effort is good. £33 (originally £55)

Places and experiences worth leaving the house for
Earlier this week, I had dinner with my sister at Miokuru, a new sushi bar on Wardour Street. I’m convinced there are more sushi bars than there are trained sushi chefs in London at this point, but these guys seem to have found a few good ones. I got decision paralysis so I just let the waiters pick for us and I enjoyed pretty much everything I put in my mouth but by far the standouts were the bluefin tuna belly and otoro handrolls. (Probably personal preference, to be honest. I see slivers of fatty tuna in my dreams.) Also the seared beef. We went for an early reservation on a Tuesday, so it wasn’t that busy, but I plan to return on a night later in the week just for the bar round the back – a curtained room with about a dozen seats that serves sake and cocktails. I’d take a date here.
If you’re not going to be at Carnival next week Sunday, then the second-best way to spend the bank holiday weekend would be at this walk-in all-day summer party at Planque with guest chef Zen Ong, who runs two restaurants in LA. (FYI: Planque got a glowing review from Lauren Joseph in Late Filing a while back.) No mention of prices on this but I wouldn’t go expecting a bargain.
