I often lie in bed, eyes closed, calm, relaxed, yet brain still alive and excited, thinking about, mostly tomorrow, and some of today, and occasionally embarrassing things from high school.
To help quiet my head, I like to imagine a tiny old Ben Kenobi is carefully crabwalking around the external catwalk of my brain.
Starting on the left side near my ear, and disappearing behind my eyes to begin his patient work of turning down the various energized dials of my brain to lower toned, less lit up levels.
There’s the one with the big quarter circle handle that he cycles down.
And then another huge dial that he turns counter clockwise, indicator lights disappearing as he does so.
I try to imagine it in detail, maybe even the droning of the Storm Troopers nearby, prattling about the latest hover bike they read about in the magazines that apparently get delivered to the Death Star.
And after Ben has done his dilligent work, I then imagine the thoughts that have been banging around in my head are now free to leave by the hanger of my left ear, and the YT1000 cargo ships fly out of it, with Tie Fighters fast behind it.
Pew! Pew! Pew!. Nice Shot! Don’t get cocky!
By which point I have woken up my wife and she is mad, and I am still not any closer to sleep.
