Hello all! Thanks for subscribing to Glass Half Full, whether free or paid. I’ve got some news about the future of this newsletter.
Here’s the TL;dr: I’m going to pause my weekly posts indefinitely, and I’m also pausing paid subscriptions. If you’re a paying subscriber, you shouldn’t be charged again after today. Thanks again for all your support so far! For further details, keep reading.
I’ve had some health issues over the past few months that have kept me from focusing on writing the way I’d like to. At the beginning of the year, my plan was to serialize the already-written Lost Lake through early April. I was going to take that time to revise Ship of Fools for print and ebook publication, hire a cover artist, etc. But I didn’t get much done and now, here we are. I could go back to writing weekly Protest Songs essays, but even that will distract me from releasing a novel, given my current energy level. I also want to release Lost Lake as a stand-alone novella. Plus, I’m kicking an idea around for a full-length novel featuring Jim Pulaski.
Those three projects would easily see me through the end of the year, without regularly updating my Substack. The drawbacks of being a one project at a time writer! Maybe I should do like that one romance writer and resort to using AI. Then I could publish 200 novels in a year. (Set your sarcasm detector to high for that one.)
I’ve got a procedure lined up for next week. Maybe after that I’ll be back to my usual energetic, vivacious, and enthusiastic self, and you’ll hear from me more regularly. But for now, I plan to treat this Substack like a more traditional writer’s newsletter: occasional updates on my fiction projects, with maybe a random essay here and there, if I feel motivated.
(I nearly wrote a post for today about the flight of Artemis II, but even that inspiring mission didn’t get me to the keyboard. I hope you were able to watch some of it, hear the inspiring words from the crew, or at least see some of the fantastic photos like the one below.)
Stay safe out there, and expect me when you see me (in your inbox, that is).
