Last week I interviewed someone with a profile unlike anyone I’ve ever had on the podcast. His actual job title is “wealth creation and preservation consultant,” and honestly, my mind was blown. There was so much knowledge being dropped that the conversation ran over 2 hours, the longest episode I’ve ever shot. I had to physically call time on it. We’ll keep the episode length standard for the main release and extract the additional gems for those of you in the Wealth Room.
But here’s the thing. The deeper I go into this topic of wealth, the more I realise just how vast it is, and how much I still don’t know. One of those things I’d definitely heard of before but had never properly studied came up in our conversation, the Wealth Quadrant, popularised by Robert Kiyosaki. It basically maps out where your money comes from, and where you’re trying to get to.
The quadrant splits into four ways people make money. On the left side you’ve got the E (Employee), someone who works for a wage and trades time for money, and the S (Self Employed), the specialist or small business owner who still has to show up for the money to keep coming in. The problem with the left side? You stop, the money stops. On the right side you’ve got the B (Business Owner), who builds systems and teams that generate income without them being hands on, and the I (Investor), who puts money to work so it earns more money on its own. The whole point is this. The left side trades time for money. The right side builds assets that pay you whether you show up or not.
Everything we try to do with this newsletter and the Building Wealth Without Borders brand is to move you toward that final quadrant, the Investor. Because once your money is working harder than you are, you stop being the engine and start being the owner. That’s where real freedom lives. The kind where your time is yours again, where one bad month doesn’t threaten everything, and where you can finally set up your generational wealth so that those who come after you start on the right hand side of the quadrant instead of fighting their way across it like most of us have to.
If getting to the right hand side is something you’re interested in, just know there’s so much to learn. It’s far more complex than picking a stock or buying a property. It’s layered, and a lot of it is deliberately kept behind closed doors. That’s exactly what we’re here to unpack. So make sure you’re tuning in every week, here and on the podcast, to take your wealth knowledge to the next level.
Lessons From This Week’s Podcast Guest
In this week’s episode of Building Wealth Without Borders, I sat down with the highest net worth person we’ve ever had on the show, multiple 9 figures, around $200M, and I asked him if there was anything “unhinged” he did as part of his success. He didn’t really have anything wild to share on that front, but he did give me one thing he’s done every single day, from the early days of building his wealth right up to now.
He zeros out his inbox before bed, no matter what time he gets there. If there’s an email he can answer in that moment, he reads it so he knows what’s going on, then marks it as unread to action properly the next morning. Interestingly, he doesn’t believe in all the 5am wake ups, ice baths, and morning workouts. In his words, that stuff doesn’t move the needle. This one habit does.
And when you think about it, it all comes down to efficiency. Success loves speed and accuracy and staying on top of things. Being the person who never lets things slip, who moves fast and moves correctly, that is a massive competitive advantage, and it’s one I know I need to keep on top of.
Also, this week we tackled another #WealthWoe, which led into a conversation about whether grantors of a trust should attach stipulations to it. For example, that a beneficiary won’t access the assets or benefits unless they marry someone who is also Black. Our guest had some very interesting, and no doubt controversial, takes on the matter.
