You're Invited! The Sex Worker’s Guide to Parenting viewing party & ProMomme Vol 2 launch

While sex work has long been positioned as a threat to “family values,” the new Sex Worker’s Guide to Parenting documentary (SWGTP) says otherwise. As a 14-year sex industry veteran and mother of two, I turned the camera on myself and five other Southern California sex-working parents, who reflect on the value of our work for childrearing. The film documents the publication of ProMomme, the first parenting magazine for sex workers—born from the SWOPLA (Sex Workers Outreach Project, Los Angeles) community. ProMomme’s contributors aren’t just sex workers who happen to be parents; many write about how skills from sex work, like boundary-setting, reading a room, and negotiating consent, directly inform their parenting, and vice versa. The second volume of ProMomme launches in LA on July 23, at the documentary’s viewing party on the heels of a sold-out first issue. Read on for event details below…

The Viewing Party & Magazine Launch is a free community presentation hosted by the Feminist Center for Creative Work (FCCW). It’s an extension of my work It’s not a whore house, it’s a whore home feat. The Sex Worker’s Guide to Parenting, which is part of the Radical Kinship exhibition currently on view at FCCW.

Following the viewing, I’m excited to be part of a panel discussion with Lauren Levitt whose research focuses on sex worker art and publication projects, sex workers’ rights advocate and SWGTP cast member Lotus Lain, and Radical Kinship curator, educator, and LA-based arts leader Chloë Flores.

Reception with drinks and snacks will be served in the lobby after the conversation, where SWOPLA will be tabling and selling limited-edition ProMomme magazines and shirts.
