After Studying Pseudoscientific Systems for Six Years, Here’s Where I’m At

For six years, I tried to decode myself through symbols.

Astrology, Human Design, Gene Keys, the Mayan calendar…

Since 2020, I’ve studied pretty much every pseudoscientific system under the sun (pun intended), trying to figure out their common denominator. First to find my own happiness after reaching a plateau in regular psychotherapy, and later to help others.

The common denominator seems to be connection. Whatever the issue on the surface that leads you to look for information about yourself or someone else’s nature, there is a basic need to reconnect — with yourself, with others, or with the world — through recognition.

But apart from that, my curiosity has also led to many more questions.

The Permission to Be Different

Not about myself. Whatever the cause, I know a lot more about myself now than I did all those years ago. But I also know now I didn’t need those systems. They sped up the process, but aren’t indispensable.

What they unlocked in me was the permission to feel different. In that way, they benefited me greatly. But the rebel and sceptic researcher in me could never commit to one system or belief.

“So…you, eh, believe in that stuff then?”

Ah, belief — that is the word I get the most when I share that I study astrology and share Human Design knowledge. “So… you, eh, believe in that stuff then?” accompanied by a puzzled stare, because they previously thought I was pretty smart. In response, my brain goes beep. I don’t get that question.

What is belief anyway? I prefer to see things at another level. Does this benefit me right now? Does it fulfill a need? Will it harm me or others — now or in the long run?

Well, I never hurt anyone in the process of learning about the mythical creature Chiron — wounded healer, also a name given to the planetoid close to Saturn, that you and I can find in our birth chart.

I love stories, and many cultures would argue that they carry power and memory. In those systems, they serve as tools for reflection, as mirrors. It’s about what you do with that knowledge that counts.

But more on that later.

The Scientific Path

It’s 2026, and I’ve just started a scientific Bachelor’s in Psychology.

For the next six years, I want to immerse myself in modern scientific approaches to the psyche — and in navigating the world as a neurodivergent chicken. I look forward to learning the profession of helping others, being challenged again by knowledge and tutors, and doing some scientific research of my own.

To stay sceptical. Curious. Open-minded.
