La Copine · La Copine

On Sunday, we soft opened the shop in the shipping container next to La Copine! This is something we have dreamed about since opening the restaurant. For years, people have asked us if they could buy a little oat milk, a few limes, one head of garlic, a six pack of eggs… Because they don’t want to go back into town, which we get. Once you head out into the desert you’ll want to stay and play.

For 10 years we have carefully sourced all of the ingredients for the restaurant, which is a job on its own that Nikki has mastered. In our cookbook we talk about the days before our produce purveyor accounts, and how the only option for us was to shop at the grocery stores, but for hundreds of people each week—this was another job on its own. We had every aisle and employees name memorized and other customers would ask what we were doing with all the ingredients. Inez from Vons was our best form of advertising, and to this day she tells anyone she’s never seen in there before who might have organic ingredients… Have you been to La Copine?

The thought of sourcing additional items for a shop was just not an option until now. We kept lists in our phones of our favorite things and noticed we always packed the same on road trips. We have a special dog (Francis aka Frankie) and only two people can take care of him if we are away, so, for us it’s likely a road trip, and on a trip we always bring…

  • small cutting board

  • pairing knife

  • kitchen towel

  • dice and a deck of cards

  • journal and a pen

  • bartenders wine key

  • nail kit

  • doggie poop bags

  • blanket

  • pocket knife

  • peeler (if we plan of making dishes where it’s required)

  • sea salt

  • cooking oil

  • jam

  • cheese

  • bread

  • something sweet

  • car snacks

  • shopping bags

In the shop you will find all of those things, a brand new merch line, beverages and snacks, dry goods and pantry items, a small amount of produce, things for the kitchen, art for your walls, stuff for your dog, and so much more. We hope you can stop in this holiday season! We’re working as fast as we can to get it online, but for now come see us in person.
