So, what's next?

You may have noticed the title here is not my typical format. This article isn’t my usually format either. In fact, it’s not even about wine or at least not directly. It’s mainly about me. I started writing Forgotten Wines with two purposes in mind. The first of these was to engage with the world of fortified wines on a deeper level than what was in my study material for WSET Diploma, by sharing that with you all. The second, more self-serving goal is to study for the exam which I just finished. I feel it went fairly well, by the way, but I won’t know my result for several months.

Originally, I had planned for this to be a mini-series that accompanied my studies and then I would move on to a new, longer body of work. That comes to why I’m writing this specific article to you all. This isn’t going to be a mini-series. I’ve really enjoyed writing these, and I’m going to continue. However, I am going to take a little break before jumping back in to take care of some other exciting-but-not-wine-related things. The time period in my head is about two weeks, but we’ll see if I last that long before writing again. Now on to what you’re really wondering about.

So, what’s going to happen with Forgotten Wines?

Forgotten Wines is going to change form to talk about wines a little less forgotten. It very likely will be getting a facelift and a brand new name to fit the new direction. I’ll be talking about more than just fortified wines, for one. In the very immediate future I’ll be transitioning to cover *any* wine. In some ways this will follow a similar format to our previous articles. I’ll be writing along the journey to study for my final WSET Diploma exam, the somewhat daunting Still Wines section. You’ll see some possible favorite, like big Napa Cabernet Sauvignons or Australian Syrah, but also some new faces that you may not hear much about, like Grüner Veltliner from Austria. As before, you’ll hopefully not only discover some new wines but also learn more about styles which you may already consume regularly. There’s always more to learn with wine.

I also plan to overhaul the subscription set up a bit to give more meaning to paid subscriptions. I’m still planning details, and I’ll write an in-depth look at the subscription setup when it’s ready to be rolled out. The original Forgotten Wines series will be tagged with “Forgotten Wines”, along with specific tags for the article contents, so you can always come back and find them.
