We more or less know the story that is celebrated these days of Pentecost, where after 50 days (=Pentecost) after the resurrection the new disciples spoke to all the Jews who came for a yearly pilgrimage from all the countries to where they had been dispersed. In Jerusalem at the day of Pentecost, it’s said that they heard the new disciples of Jesus speaking to them in the languages that they spoke.

It’s celebrated amongst Christians as the “outpouring of the Holy Spirit”. But what is it all about?

It’s known in many cultures and spiritual traditions: a language spoken out that does not derive its meaning from cognitive concepts in the mind (as this is the case for other languages where words have a defined meaning and sentences a ruleset of grammar) but that is directly inspired by Spirit.

When I first started to speak it (in our Christian tradition we said “we receive it”, which is common in certain branches of Christianity - Pentecostals and Charismatics, in the meantime more commonly used), I found myself lending my tongue to whatever moved it and spoke. And what I realized was that it tremendously connected me with the spiritual realm. It sounded often very different, depending of the context I used it for. This language (referred to by Christians as “speaking in tongues”) gave me spontaneously whenever used an incredible additional spiritual strength and was often the beginning of a stream of channeling (referred to by Christian charismatics as prophesying).

When later I received a lot of new input from other spiritual traditions, I learned that the very same phenomenon is common in the Buddhism/Hinduism as “Light Language”.

Here are a few definitions people tried to describe light language with, that may be helpful.

  • A form of communication that bypasses human limitations

  • A sacred gift that speaks to us on a soul level. Our human brain can't and won't be able to understand it

  • Light language is your soul’s language that holds your unique frequency or essence. Think of light as information, and light language is a channel through which you bring that subtle information forward into physical reality.

It’s also a unique form of communication and connection with your spirit and source. This is why it is a powerful modality for healing, clearing, upgrading, and receiving spiritual guidance.

Well we may believe it or not. But what is sure is that our opinions of what happens in reality is typically derived from a very restricted view on reality, reduced by things our limited cognition is able to grasp. However, there are multiple modern-day examples where people allowed this stream of language to pass through them and they were then directly understood by a person who said “you spoke my language” (although the speaker didn’t have any knowledge about the language in question). If it is inspired by Spirit, that would be an easy thing to happen, just as channeling is a way spirit (or guides or whatever comes from the spiritual realm) addresses us directly.

It is not unknown to spiritual seekers that apart form our conscious and more or less deliberate journey there exist spontaneous “visitations”, if we want to call them like this, where spirit approaches us in an unexpected way. So for me it makes total sense to see the “outpouring of the Holy Spirit” that Jesus promised and that was experienced by this language which in that case even turned into an understandable language, was such a spontaneous visitation of spirit. It was accompanied by channeling (“prophesying”) as it typically happens with light language.

I would say - yes! Find out if Spirit entrusts it to you. I’m there to share more about how to receive and practice it. I’ll probably offer that in the future in my retreats - let me know if it is interesting for you. It is not seperate from your overall relationship with Spirit and your readiness to allow them to take over control and lead you into this wider energy field, so while developing those abilities and qualities you likewise make space for receiving this gift. And it’s also true vice versa: Using light language is a tremendous help for spiritual development.
