Exciting updates, I finally finished my networking 101 post and I have been noodling on my deep dive on women’s role in the film industry and “second chances” but it’s still not flowing quite right but good things take time or so I’ve been told!! I’m hoping to have that or something equally as “think piece vibes” in early-mid September and I furthermore hope they will be worth it + helpful/insightful (dream big) when they do arrive in your inboxes.

And as previously mentioned, along with those a more frequent cadence of actionable advice posts and think pieces — I’m gonna ****try*** to drop some of the things I’ve “tasted” in the last two-ish weeks. Some good, some delicious, some horrible, some strange, just a run of the gamut.

Should I just call this “my consumption report”??

  1. New favorite tiktok account has arrived — Blake (tiktok here). I feel like his videos are super insightful, well researched, and not alarmist which I appreciate. It’s just interesting news shared in a very digestible way!

  2. I’m sure this will become a video at some point but I am obsessed with the new Hulu show FURIOUS, it’s angry, volatile, smart, funny, intimidating and I think it’s a a direct reaction to living in a post-Epstein file world where it’s alarmingly clear that those involved with his countless crimes will never be prosecuted or receive any kind of retribution, Not one iota… and it’s made me think a lot about all the conversation around A24’s PRIMETIME about Chris Hansen of the ‘TO CATCH A PREDATOR’ fame. The two seem to be in direct conversation with one another — If you aren’t familiar with the wildly popular early 00’s show where… uhh a group of people talked to creepy men online and “coerced” them into coming to meet up and recorded the whole thing for network TV. Some called it entrapment, others (myself included) call it — play stupid games win stupid prizes but and it all came to a very dark head/ending in which i will not spoil! But it makes me think of America’s obsession with justice, retribution — people get dragged on the internet for not being perfectly spoken and knowing every fact on earth about every other group of people, it’s the whole holier than thou leftist’s - the left eats each other conversation but I think our lust and hunger for it comes from (to an extent) living in a world (country) where it’s never ever delivered to the people who deserve it most.

  3. Volunteering - summer months are always slower at the soup kitchen I volunteer at so if you ever have some free time! There are opps almost everyday of the week! You can sign up here.

  4. I know, I know I’m late to this but I’m just getting around to reading… listening to Lena Dunham’s FAMESICK and I’m really enjoying it. I do think the way she skirts responsibility or acknowledgement in some cases is impressive. She’ll tell us every horrible thing Jack Antonoff (whom I do not enjoy lol) told her during their break up but never mentions in detail what she said to him (just that it was some mean stuff) but despite that I think it’s gorgeously written while also not being written in a way that tries to show off what a good writer she believes she is, or is because… GIRLS.

  5. On repeat — is the new Noah Kahan — The Great Divide — album still. I am basic.

  6. I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to rediscover the types of stories I want to tell and to be honest I am struggling. Then I watched Sterling Point and I spiraled. For a variety of reasons, #1 is that within this show were key storylines that paralleled a PILOT I just completed. My pilot includes: a lake town, a tumultus sister relationship, love triangles, inequality conversations through the blue collar employees and the wealthy guests. Her’s is YA and mine is a murder mystery. They’re wildly different tones but… it just has me thinking a lot about what happens when someone makes your dream show… better. I’ve come to no clear conclusions on this, just thinking and I know they are wildly different shows but it is a kind of intimidating feeling.

  7. I just finished reading All the Sinners Bleed - S.A. Cosby continues to be one of my absolute favorite authors. His simile work is out of this world and there’s just this really raw, gorgeous, straight-forwardness to his writing that is extremely inspiring to me. He makes me yearnnnn to write a book.

  8. The eight episode conundrum (Yes i made a video on this as well lol) — as aforementioned, I just finished STERLING POINT which I adored but it left me with the irritating feeling that has consumed me recently as I’ve discovered new shows in the more GEN-Z, YA world … the ones with characters I just started to understand, adore and become attached to but was never able to become fully committed and DOWN BAD for: I LOVE LA, ADULTS, OVERCOMPENSATING, NSFW. I am convinced that these streamers x studios inability, unwillingness to give creators more than 8 episodes will result in them never getting what they want… a cultural zeitgeist moment TV show a la ONE TREE HILL, THE OC, GOSSIP GIRL, I mean for god’s sake, GIRLS had a 10 episode first season.
