The majority of school districts in Texas have a designation that allows them to start in early August when San Antonio is moving through the hottest temperatures of the year.

With temperatures climbing across San Antonio, CPS Energy is asking customers to take a few simple steps to conserve electricity as the city prepares for a peak energy demand day Thursday, Aug. 20.
San Antonio reached its highest recorded temperature of 111° on Sept. 5, 2000, at the San Antonio International Airport. This stands as the hottest day in the city’s weather records, which date to 1885.
A strong heat high is settled over Texas, bringing persistently hot and dry weather with highs near or above 100°F and heat index values up to 110°F. The pattern is expected to continue.
