My grandfather, god rest his soul, used to eat her chocolate cake like this:
Put cake in a bowl
Smear peanut butter on the top
Pour milk over it all
Mash it up with a fork
Eat it and make yummy noises.
My husband, god bless his restless soul, celebrated his birthday by making himself the cake he likes: devil’s food with chocolate butter cream frosting. (He can enjoy this because he runs every day, and at his pre-birthday checkup our doctor said he had “smug-level HDLs.”) Because he loves me, and also because he’s so polite he never eats the last bit of anything (chips, popcorn, brownies), he saved me the last piece.
Thinking of gramps, I decided to put it in my smoothie, along with some peanut butter (organic crunchy) and some milk (organic unsweetened soy because I am a woman of a certain age).
Sipping it now, I am smiling so hard right now I had to write you this story.
Happy Monday.
1 cup milk
The last piece of cake
Heaping knife full of peanut butter
Protein/collagen powder (I’m using Organized grass-fed beef byproducts powder because my grandma, god rest her soul, would want me eating liver)
Extra nutrient powder (Organic flaxseed)
Some strawberries
Some high phenol olive oil
Protein ~ 24g; Fiber ~ 10g; Fat ~ 10g (of the saturated variety…gonna go take a run with the huz now!)
Shoot, slurping the last bit I realize I could have added sauerkraut!
