Did you hear the story about the man on the plane at dinner time? The flight attendant offered him “beef, chicken or pasta.” The man replied, “I’ll take the salmon.”
We don’t need the whole story to get the point. No matter what this man wanted, there was no option for salmon on a plane. Even if he was in first class, had all the money in the world, and had a dietary restriction, if that plane wasn’t stocked with his food choice, it is impossible to offer something that simply isn’t there.
When it comes to the race for Los Angeles mayor, the “salmon” many people were hoping for was respected businessman and developer Rick Caruso. No matter how much we say we want someone with exactly the right experience, it is not an option.
Given our current political landscape (happy to share more with anyone interested,) I have only grown more excited about the possibility of Spencer Pratt becoming mayor. I think his reality TV experience is actually the experience we need at this time and in this city. Read his book, The Guy You’d Love to Hate and see for yourself. He has the right message, delivers it on social media expertly and because of his celebrity status, has access and relationships to the people in the private sector who can execute those ideas.
I’m voting for Spencer, and I believe he is positioned to win. Whether he wins in June or November remains to be seen, but I believe three things foreshadow a potential victory:
According to the Los Angeles Times, Spencer has raised $3.26 million compared to Karen Bass at $3.13 million.
Shockingly, Spencer reportedly brought in $2.72 million in just one month (April 19–May 16, 2026). By comparison, Bass brought in $283,000 during that same four-week period.
People tend to put money behind candidates they believe can win.
Spencer is often criticized for being a reality television star. But the reality is that we live in an attention economy and Spencer is getting all of the attention. All of those years on TV have only prepared him to withstand the pressures of being the spotlight and have given him the advantage of an existing and engaged following. Politicians spend enormous time, energy and money trying to build an audience and Spencer already has it. It’s nearly impossible to catch up to him. If followers were money, Spencer would be a billionaire while most candidates would be thousandaires.
As of May 22, 2026, here is how the social media followers stack up for the top 3 contenders:
Pratt
TikTok: 2.4 million
Instagram: 1.7 million
X: 3.7 million
Bass
TikTok: 12,200
Instagram: 46,700
X: 550,500
Raman
TikTok: 3,969
Instagram: 316,000
X: 44,300
But having followers is only part of the equation. What matters is what you do with attention once you have it.
My social media feed is flooded with Spencer videos that are informative, captivating and persuasive. His message is clear. He wants to restore public safety and millions are getting the message.
The airstream on his burned property political ad has been viewed 14 million times on X alone! This 9 min video correctly frames the homelessness issue and provides a solid solution. He reposted (did not create) the catchy tune of “Spencer, saca La Basura” and A.I. Joker Video that hit all of the emotional notes that typical Angeleno feel.
Money alone does not guarantee victory. (Rick Caruso reportedly spent roughly $100 million of his own money and still lost to Karen Bass four years ago.) Social media popularity does not automatically translate into voter turnout. And even a compelling message could fall flat unless there is a charismatic and strong messenger to deliver it.
But when you combine money, audience, and message together, Spencer appears to have all three working in his favor.
Voting for mayor is not like choosing an eye surgeon, where credentials like “board certified” or “10,000 successful cataract surgeries” determine the obvious choice. If he can use all of his TV experience and run the city the way he runs a campaign, he’ll be successful.
Not only does Spencer Pratt have my vote, but he’s got my prayers. Let’s turn this city around and make public safety the priority again!
Based on what I can see, we’ll be calling him “Mayor Pratt.”
