Kopi Break · Kopi Break

You may have been thinking about taking a career break for months, but still have more questions than answers.

  • How do I even begin planning a career break?

  • Can I afford to stop working?

  • How do I explain the decision to my family, my partner or my friends?

  • What should I say to my manager?

  • Will taking a break affect my future career?

That is why we are creating the Career Break Toolkit.

It will bring the practical and emotional parts of the decision into one place, so you can understand how to plan your break, prepare for the conversations around it, avoid mistakes that may affect your career later and think more clearly about what comes next.

It is not designed to convince you to leave your job. It is designed to help you decide whether a career break is right for you and understand what you may need to prepare before taking one.

Understand why you want a break, work out how long you can afford to take one, and prepare for the practical changes that come with stepping away from work.

Prepare for conversations with your family, partner and employer, consider options such as unpaid leave, and manage your resignation and notice period without damaging important relationships or your professional reputation.

Create a flexible plan for resting, travelling, caregiving, studying, exploring new interests or simply giving yourself time to understand what you want next.

Prepare to re-enter the workforce, explain your career break clearly on your CV, LinkedIn and during interviews, and rebuild your confidence and professional connections.

The complete digital toolkit will include:

A step-by-step guide to help you understand why you want a break, consider your options and decide whether the timing is right. It includes reflection exercises to help you identify what you need from the break and what you should prepare before making a decision.

Practical tools to help you prepare for the time away, including a financial runway calculator, a pre-break checklist and a flexible planner. You can use them to estimate how long your savings may last, organise important tasks before leaving and plan your break without creating a rigid schedule.

Simple scripts and guidance for speaking to your partner, family and manager about your decision. It also covers requesting unpaid leave, resigning professionally, responding to a counteroffer, managing your notice period and explaining your departure to colleagues.

Editable CV, LinkedIn and interview templates to help you explain your career break clearly and confidently. It also includes guidance on reconnecting with professional contacts and preparing for your return when you feel ready.

Everything will be written in simple language and created for people across different countries, professions and reasons for taking a break.

The toolkit will be delivered as downloadable guides, editable templates, worksheets and a spreadsheet-based calculator.

This toolkit may be helpful if:

  • You are thinking about taking a break but do not know where to begin.

  • You want to leave your job but feel worried about money or family reactions.

  • You are considering a break for rest, caregiving, travel, study, health or a change in direction.

  • You are already taking a break and are unsure how to use the time.

  • You are preparing to return and do not know how to explain the gap.

You do not need to have resigned already. In fact, the toolkit is most useful while you still have time to understand your options and prepare properly.

If this sounds like where you are right now, you can reserve the toolkit at the early-bird price before it increases.

Kopi Break itself was born during a career break.

That time away created the space to pause, think differently and build something that may not have been possible while continuing with work as usual. It was not a perfectly planned journey, and there were uncertainties along the way, but it showed us that a career break does not always have to mean stepping backwards. With enough thought and preparation, it can also lead you towards something new.

We do not believe everyone who feels tired should immediately quit their job. But when someone is seriously considering a break, they deserve more than general advice telling them to rest, travel or follow their passion.

They need help thinking through the practical decisions, the people affected, the conversations at work, the time away and the eventual return.

We are creating this toolkit to make that process clearer and less lonely, and to show that when a career break is planned carefully, it can open up possibilities you may not be able to see yet.

1) Do I need to have resigned already?

No. The toolkit is designed for people who are still considering a career break, preparing to leave, already taking a break or planning their return to work.

2) What if I am unsure whether I should take a career break?

That is exactly where the toolkit begins. The readiness workbook will help you understand why you want a break, what may need to change and whether a full career break is the right option for you. It will also help you consider alternatives such as unpaid leave, a shorter pause or moving to a different role.

3) What reasons for taking a career break does the toolkit cover?

You can use it whether your break is for rest, caregiving, parenting, travel, study, health recovery, starting something of your own or reconsidering your career direction. You do not need to fit into one particular reason.

4) Is it only for long career breaks?

No. You can use it to plan a break lasting a few months, a year or longer. The planner is flexible, so you can adapt it to your own timeline rather than follow a fixed programme.

5) Is this suitable if my break was not planned?

Yes. The toolkit can also help if you have already left work, were retrenched or had to take time away unexpectedly. Some of the preparation steps may no longer apply, but the planning, reflection and return-to-work sections will still be useful.

6) Will the toolkit tell me how much money I need before taking a break?

It will not give everyone one fixed savings amount because expenses and responsibilities are different. The financial runway calculator will help you enter your own savings, regular expenses, planned costs and emergency buffer to estimate how long your current funds may last.

7) Will it help me speak to my family or partner about the decision?

Yes. The conversations pack will include guidance and sample scripts for speaking to a partner, parents, family members or anyone who may be financially or personally affected by your decision. It will also cover how to respond when they are worried or do not agree with you.

8) Will it help me resign from my job?

Yes. It will include guidance for speaking to your manager, asking about unpaid leave, writing a resignation email, responding to a counteroffer, managing your notice period and leaving without damaging professional relationships.

9) Can I use it if I want to request a sabbatical instead of resigning?

Yes. The toolkit will help you consider whether unpaid leave, a sabbatical, reduced hours or another temporary arrangement may be possible before deciding to resign completely.

10) Will it help me plan what to do during the break?

Yes. The flexible planner will help you think about rest, personal responsibilities, travel, learning, projects and career exploration. It is not designed to keep you constantly productive or turn the break into another demanding schedule.

11) Will it help me return to work after the break?

Yes. The return-to-work toolkit will include examples for explaining your break on your CV and LinkedIn, preparing for interview questions and reconnecting with former colleagues or professional contacts.

12) What if I do not want to return to the same career?

You can still use the toolkit. The reflection and planning exercises will help you consider what you want to keep, change or explore next. It will not assume that returning to your previous role or industry is the only successful outcome.

13) Is the toolkit suitable for every profession and location?

It has been designed to work across different professions, industries, levels of seniority and locations. The examples will be broad enough to adapt to your own workplace and location rather than being written for one particular type of job and country.

14) Will it explain the taxation, pension, insurance etc. rules for my country?

No. Employment, tax, insurance, pension and visa rules differ across countries and individual circumstances. The toolkit will tell you what questions to investigate, but for taxation, pension, insurance, etc. purposes you will need to verify the answers with the relevant authority or a qualified professional in your country.

15) Is this a personalised consultation?

No. This is a self-guided digital toolkit and does not include individual career coaching, financial planning, legal advice or a personal review of your situation.

16) How much time will I need to complete it?

You do not need to complete everything at once. You can begin with the sections most relevant to where you are now and return to the remaining tools as your plans develop.

17) What format will the toolkit be provided in?

The toolkit will include digital guides, worksheets, editable templates and a spreadsheet-based calculator. You will be able to use them on a computer and save your own copies for personal use.

18) How will I receive it?

The complete toolkit will be sent digitally to the email address used during purchase in the first week of September 2026. Please make sure you enter the correct email address at checkout.

19) Will I have continued access after downloading it?

Yes. Once delivered, you can keep the toolkit and return to it during the planning, break and re-entry stages. It is intended for your personal use only and should not be shared or resold.

20) What happens if the toolkit is updated later?

Customers who purchase the early-bird version should receive any minor corrections or improvements made to the original edition.

21) Can I buy it for someone else?

Yes. You can purchase it as a gift, but use the recipient’s email address at checkout or contact Kopi Break (kopibreaksg@gmail.com) after purchasing so the toolkit can be sent to the correct person.

22) Is this financial, legal or medical advice?

No. It is a planning, reflection and career-support resource. Readers should verify financial, employment, insurance, tax, visa and health matters with qualified professionals or the relevant authorities in their own country.

23) What is the refund policy?

You can request a full refund at any time before the toolkit is delivered, no questions asked. Once the digital toolkit has been sent, purchases will be non-refundable unless there is a technical issue that prevents you from accessing the files.

To request a refund, email kopibreaksg@gmail.com using the same email address you entered at checkout.

A career break can open up new possibilities, but it helps to understand what you are stepping away from, what you need to prepare and how you may eventually return.

The Career Break Toolkit will help you think through the decision with greater clarity, avoid common mistakes and plan what comes next in a way that works for you.
