APIs are cool

It was only after a year of using Raindrop, the bookmarks platform, that I learned that it has an Application Programming Interface or API . And even then I didn't realize it was something I, a consumer, could use it. I never cared for APIs. To me, they were the boring part of programming stuff, as all the do is deliver data ways so complicated that they require reading technical documentation. I…

How I publish bookmarks on this website

After experimenting with various read later apps, IFTTT, Zapier, Airtable, Notion and Obsidian bases, I now use Raindrop and its API. Please continue to my website to read the post.

The Proper Art of Writing

The letters, almost illegible, seem to dissolve any defensible boundary between penmanship and artistry, proving that writing — even when it is unreadable — can overflow with aesthetic and emotional significance. Some of these designs look much more modern, but the book was published in 1655.

How to pick the least wrong colors

I’m a self-taught designer. This has its upsides: I learn at my own pace (in my case, slowly over decades and counting), I design my own curriculum, and I don’t have to do any homework or pass any tests. I have a formal design education, but I can very much relate with Matthew's feeling incompetent and love how he managed to turn a ton of research into an algorithm.

The Scrambled Eggs My Dad's Made 100,000 Times

Most scrambled eggs recipes are tested only a handful of times. My dad used to make this dish multiple times a day, every day, for 60+ years. I made these once and they were better than any I've every had. Also works with a pinch vegetable broth powder. (I still aim to eat only plant-based, but make an exception for the eggs from my in-law's happy garden chickens.)

I do care

If you live basically anywhere, chances are your government is doing batshit crazy stuff. Stuff that you really should distance yourself from, because if you have any kind of influence online, you should use that for things that matter, right? I mean, what's wrong with you Americans? You abduct of Maduro, bomb Iran and you're just publishing the same AI essays, lists of your favorite apps and tech…

How I do web design

Seven years ago, I started writing down the things that actually helped me as a designer. Not theories: practical lessons. I updated the list occasionally, then forgot about it altogether. I found it again today and expanded it with what some of the things I’ve learned since. It's all over the place ranging from things I've learned in school till what I learned last week. Maybe there's something…
