In this KIW Research Note, we are going to explore the last of the six physiological models proposed to explain fatigue and performance during prolonged exercise.

We have already covered the Cardiovascular-Anaerobic, Energy Store Depletion, Neuromuscular, Efficiency, and Muscle Damage/Trauma models.

Here, we are going to focus on the sixth and final one: the Thermoregulatory Model.

We will see what this model is and, as we did for the other models, how the Thermoregulatory Model can be used to optimize preparation strategies within the Physiological Model of Endurance Performance (PMEP), which selects training, nutrition, supplementation, technology, and recovery strategies by targeting the specific physiological mechanisms that limit performance in a given competition or effort.
