There are places that are beautiful in good weather, and then there is Kerala in the rain. Between June and July, the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Edavappathy, transforms the state into a world of overflowing rivers, mist-covered hills, awakened waterfalls, and puddles and rivulets just around your homestead. The rains soften the pace of life: houseboats drift quietly through the backwaters, tea stalls grow warmer and more inviting, every shade of green deepens, and the air carries the scent of wet earth and spices.

Far from being a season to avoid, the monsoon is perhaps the most intimate time to experience Kerala, when the crowds recede, and the landscape feels enthusiastically alive. At Knowhere Travel Co, we see the rains not as an interruption to travel but as an invitation to slow down, to embrace stillness, atmosphere, and the quiet magic that only the monsoon rains can bring.

Enjoy the rains in Kerala!

Of course, should you like to visit somewhere else: we have truly special spaces on our roster across the country. Mail us at journeys@knowheretravel.co to plan a custom holiday anywhere in India (or Kenya)!

We are ever grateful to have wonderful guests and patrons If you would like to walk through the pristine forested hills and valleys in Uttarakhand, get in touch now at journeys@knowheretravel.co to know more about the upcoming seasons.

The Brahmaputra Drift is a series of river expeditions carefully designed to explore a network of tributaries that form the catchment of the great Brahmaputra river. The Brahmaputra is the 15th-longest river in the world. Rising in Tibet, it enters India at Arunachal Pradesh, before reaching the plains of Assam and enters Bangladesh, where it merges with the Ganges (called the Padma in Bangladesh)and completes its journey at the Bay of Bengal.

Knowhere Travel Co has been developing the concept of river exploration with packrafts since 2019. Packrafting is a fusion of backpacking and rafting, bringing you an amphibious adventure like no other.

Originating as a lightweight, inflatable raft designed for backcountry travel, packrafts unlock access to remote rivers, serene lakes, and untouched wilderness. Since they are highly manoeuvrable, packrafts can give you the freedom to navigate water bodies that are otherwise difficult to access. As pioneers of commercial packrafting in India, we remain committed to setting a high benchmark for safety, responsibility, and sustainability, helping shape the path as the community grows.

The stark, cold desert landscapes of the high-altitude Trans-Himalayas host ancient waterways that were once revered as deities and are woven into the region’s oldest myths.

The Trans-Himalayan Drift is a series of packrafting river expeditions through these waterways, which later became vital arteries of the Silk Trade that carried culture, migration, and wisdom across mountains to the great cities of Central Asia. Uniquely shaped by the collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates, this is a region of geological marvel unlike anything we can imagine.
