Last yarn update before hiatus!

Friends, today it is cold and in a few days the high will be below freezing…but we’ve recently been walking without coats and our first tomato seedlings have popped their little leaves above the surface. Summer will be here soon, and we’re winding down shop business so we can focus on growing food.

But before we sign off for a few months, we have one last yarn update. For March preorders, I have a new colorway for you, a former club yarn available for the first time, and I selfishly picked an old favorite.

The new colorway is Ghosts of Gardens Past. It is so spring and a tribute to all the remnants of old flower gardens that residents of our farm planted long ago. We are still delighting in their efforts many decades later, and this yarn celebrates that joy. What a fantastic legacy to leave!

I’ve been meaning to offer you this previous yarn club colorway for a while, and it’s really now or never! This is Chicken Coop on a Frosty Morn, from late 2023. It is a very peaceful colorway taking its hues from the quiet winter mornings on the farm.

Finally, I’m bringing back International Festival of Owls because Bill was wearing his socks from this yarn recently and I want a pair too! This yarn is from early 2020, so the photos I have aren’t the best, but I promise it is a great neutral. The browns are warm and cozy, and the white stripe is surprisingly captivating. I couldn’t stop looking at Bill’s Birkenstock-clad feet while he was wearing them!

These three yarns are available for preorder through March 20 on a variety of yarn bases - fingering, sport, and DK weights. Choose your favorite yarn and add a mini skein for heels and toes. Or, pick a stripe color you love from any yarn and have us dye a full semi-solid skein for you!

There are some new ready-to-ship yarns just listed too. Some are extras from recent dyeing and some are a bit of a mystery. There were two yarn tests in recent months that I decided not to use for club. The skeins are offered at a discount because I don’t have sample photos for you. They will be a bit of an adventure!

Finally, we come to some judgy owls.

I mean, maybe they are just curious? Or perhaps alarmed? But, I do maybe feel as if they are a little snarky about my choices.

Two new sets of project bags have been added. These owls share the spotlight with very non-judgmental spring birds on a vibrant teal.

There are also these funky chickens. Some of these birds are recognizable chickens. Some are…like…chickenesque? They are all quite cute, but I’m not sure what to call some of them.

This will be the last big shop update until the fall! We are very excited to be able to “reclaim” the farm this summer. Things have slowly gotten away from us, and we’ve misplaced a lot of the capacity to harvest from our land. I can’t tell you the last time we made cheese from goat milk, or canned our own tomatoes.

See all these tomato plants from 2023?

No? Because they are inundated by ragweed? Yeah. That was a recent “good” year in the garden. If I have the choice to play with wool and color, or sweat in the dirt, I will apparently choose you all and yarn every time. So, I have to eliminate the choice for a while….but just for a while. We’ll be back around Octoberish, so please work through your stash for a bit, but don’t forget about us! I’ll still send you random goat photos, and hopefully lots of garden updates! PS: I was looking for a photo of a baby goat and sunflower. I didn’t find it, but I did find these silly Barred Rock chickens - the matriarchs of our whole flock!

I also found one of my favorite photos from our honeymoon - 25 years ago, this coming November! Two Snorkelgoofs who have no idea they are going to end up farming.
